That round plug is the bizness. Been wanting to incorporate that for a long time now. I'm considering using a BMW unit since I know where a bunch of them are laying around.

I want to do this but its sooooo over my head. The wiring in my car is ATROCIOUS and embarasing. Bulkheads would make it manageable. Now is the time to do it considering that its 100*f every day and I have no desire to visit the track when its that hot.

How do you know what you can and can't pull from the harness? Is there a master list?

1. Start car.
2. Cut wires one at a time until car stops
3. (back up one step)

Ya know, this is probably not a bad approach. I'll turn the car on with the light and rad fan on and start cutting, lol.

Sorry, but that is retarded. Use a wireing diagram for any wire your not 110% sure what it is.

I know your kidding, but get a hold of a wiring diagram, grab john and buy him a keg of his favorite beer while going to town. Basically everything that isn't needed to run the ******* motor is gone now. Clutch switches, all the cruse control/airbag/power steering stuff. I literally have about 7 wires going from the passenger side to the drivers side for the stock cluster and brake lights.

I am going to wait to loom it all together until i am positive its all correct. Also, find a friend who is good with electronics, I've had an electronic engineer helping me the past few days.

I know -- I was joking.

Seriously, I am starting phase 2 of my own wiring reduction, and your progress is inspiring. I did not quite have the courage on the first pass to relocate the fuse box, but now I think I will give it a try. Nice job on the firewall connectors.

I had my entire engine bay de-loomed with the intentions of using some medical grade bulkhead connectors a vendor sent me ... but I ran out of *****.

This thread is forcing me to revisit that initiative. I need to stop snooping on forums or in the pits ... too many well executed cars which make mine feel like *****.

What's the most accurate source for wiring diagrams? I have the Haynes but given it's inaccuracies I'm not confident in it's diagrams.

I don't think I've ever used a wiring diagram. I pick a blank plug or something I don't want (like stereo or the door buzzer) and untape the loom until I find the source of the wires, and cut them out. Pretty simple and effective. I always stop at the heater core though, that's a huge job if you're just looking to save a few ounces of wire.

I was planning to do as you described but as I attempted to removed all the airbag wiring/fuses it appeared other sensors/wires were also fused at the same point ... this is where I called it quits.

The only wires left of the ecu are for the oem cluster, and surprisingly alot of the ones in the stock cluster can be cut off. Every single wire that isnt needed is gone.
