Those dumbasses should have not dropped out of school. People like that are the main reason why the rest of the world think we're stupid, and I guess I can't blame them for thinking that way. If you live in America (I'm not even saying "you're American"...just live here) you should already KNOW our major holidays, important dates, our amendments, etc.

Sad part is that I bet they did graduate HS. Schools teach just enough to get you through, weather or not kids learn beyond that all depends on how much they want to learn. I know for a fact that the students down here are taught just enough to be able to pass the FCAT's. Our education system as a whole is a ******* joke and people are getting more stupid every year.

It is far easier to control uneducated people. That is exactly the point behind dumbing down the schools. It was a calculated decision by a group of people to undermine our country.
Personal responsibility is bleeding to death, shame is dead, and civic responsibility was buried years ago. Those people should be ashamed for not knowing the answers to those questions, but instead they giggle. They should feel a sense of duty as Americans to honor those far better than themselves who entrusted these gifts to them, but they giggle. They should feel compelled to study their rights, responsibilities, and history for their own sake, and yet they giggle.

Why do we learn these things? Because they meant everything to our fathers and our fathers' fathers and they mean everything to us whether we respect that fact or not.
My great-great-grandfather, John Anderson Stephens was a Private in Company A, The 17th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Benning's Brigade, Hood's Division, General Longstreet's First Corp, Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. He fought in the Battle of Gettysburg at the age of 14, the Battle of Chickamauga at age 15, fought in the East Tennessee Campaign, the Wilderness Campaign, the Cold Harbor/Mechanicsville Campaign, the Siege of Petersburg, and was retired from active military service at the surrender at Appomattox Court House at age 16. What does it matter to me?
My wife's great-great uncle, First Lieutenant Christopher William Ford, flew and fought with the Lafayette Escadrille and later the 103rd Aero Squadron during the First World War and has three confirmed and one unconfirmed victories. After over 300 hours of combat flying he was shot down, captured by the Germans, and was a POW until the end of the war. My wife's grandfather was named after him and respected him very much. What does it matter to my wife?
Why does it matter? Why should we remember? Because we are not merely shaven apes. We are granted by God the ability to remember, to comprehend, to invest ourselves in the pursuit of greater awareness of our world past, present, and future. It is a crime against our very being to spend our days as beasts of the field staring blankly at the world as we chew our cud and drool. Yet so many do. They have prepared themselves for the slaughter and nothing more. And when the day comes they will dutifully march through the inward swinging rear doors of the packing plant, having surrendered all premise of self-determination.

Why do we celebrate the 4th of July? Because our parents did... and their parents did.. and so on.
Some of you don't realize there are still some really smart people out there. Of course they are not being put on youtube. Remember the dumb naturally stand out, the smart go unnoticed. It's natural to think they out number the intelligent because it's all we hear.

For your theory to hold water with me there would have to be fewer riced out Civics and 240's than tastefully modified cars. There are always more sheep than wolves.

Not everyone is smart about everything. If you judge everyone on how smart they are by the car they own, then you fall into the stupid category. Which by your calculations means that I'm stupid, as well as every other miata owner on here since we drive the same cars.

My wife grew up knowing everything about Mexico, her anthem, her history, how her government works.
To become an American citizen she also had to learn, of her own volition, the same for our country as well. The naturalization process involves lots and lots of paperwork and waiting, then several interviews, and finally a couple of tests on English and Civics before finally taking an Oath of Allegiance.
The test questions can be found online, there's 100 of them she had to know by heart. I believe that not only could many Americans not answer even half of them, but many wouldn't go through this process given the choice. You'll meet very few people that care more about being a citizen than those that have taken the LEGAL immigration route.
Don't even get her started on the opportunities we have and waste here...

Take a moment to re-read my statement. Civics and 240s are fine, sturdy automobiles. People who cut the springs on them and ride around bouncing on rubber bumpstops are unequivocally morons. People who ride around with shattered paper thin bumper covers flapping wildly in the breeze don't strike me as ones who are tastefully modding their cars. I apologize if I offended you. Is someone close to your heart a hardcore ricer or something?
