Default Another noob from the other side of the pond!

Hi all,

Been lurking since August 2010, when I bought a MS2 DIY PnP from the original Braineack / Reverent group buy. I live in London, but keep my car up in Scotland, where I'm originally from.

I used to take part in a lot of track days in my old Elise -

And eventually ended up racing a Caterham 7 in a national series -

Gave up for a while, but wanted to find a cheap way back into some track work, so bought an MX5 / Miata last summer.

It's a 1999/NB 1.8 RS - It's a JDM model with a 6 speed box / LSD / Bilsteins / lighter flywheel and 500rpm higher rev limit than UK models.

Was planning to supercharge the car, for a little more 'get up & go', and put together 90% of the kit to install a homebrew Eaton M45 setup, from a MINI Cooper S.

Unfortunately, the inlet pipework fouls on my cars ABS pump, so it was back to the drawing board at a late stage... :(

Sold all the s/c, and put in a healthy order to FM for a manifold / outlet / DP and other bits and pieces.

Was gifted a T28 in unknown condition, and currently debating whether to use it or buy a chinacharger...?

In the interim, I completed a massive service on the car last week (belts / all fluids / water pump / plugs & leads etc), and fitted an M-Tuned Corrado rotor kit / braided lines.

Have a set of polybushes to install when I refurb the wishbones, and then I'll fit the Tein Flex coilovers I've had lying in my garage for 8 months.

Will enjoy the car for the summer, and look to turbo in the winter.

Lots (and lots of reading on here ahead!)

(As it sits, on Rota Circuit 8's, fitted with Toyo R888 track tyres).

...and driven on many classic tracks (Old Nordschleife, Spa G.P., Brands Hatch etc) - Looking forward to trying the MX5 / Miata out on them, once it's been overhauled...

Just saw this thread now thinking: "hmm, this guy is a noob? I thought I saw him posting in the diypnp thread" lol

Welcome.

Nice Loti (sp?)
Good call scrapping that tiny heaton and going with REAL FI. Looks like you have your priorities(and plan of attack) in order. Good luck

Hi Dimitris,

I'm a bit behind, having changed plans from supercharging -> turbo, but have just about all the bits to go ahead now. Looking forward to running the MS up for the first time!

'Loti' = collective of 'Lotus'; but I may have made that up...

They're great fun on track - early Elise's weigh ~1500lbs, so you can keep up with high bhp cars over the course of the lap, making up what you lose on straights in the corners / on the brakes...

(Or you can go for a high bhp Elise - I borrowed the one below at a trackday at Donington G.P circuit...It's had a Honda K20A transplanted, before having an MP62 charger (chargecooled) fitted. Putting out somewhere north of 320 bhp and weighing under 1500lbs...Very quick over a lap!!)

Anyway, time to try something new - Elise's like the one above cost £25k / $40,000+, so hopefully I can tune my little Mazda to be reasonably quick & fun to drive, for a bit less than this!

(Although I'm about to start building a 1.9 bottom end, so I can see costs climbing slightly... )
