Default Hello from Guelph Ontario

Hey guys!

I've been lurking this forum for a few years, but its high time to at least say hi to everyone. I'm a mechanical engineering student at the university here and I have a bone-stock, for now, 1990 smurf. Really hoping to get into a turbo build this summer. I've started with the DaveFab t25 manifold kit which I'll hopefully weld up on Friday. Maybe I'll remember to post pics. I've also collected a couple junk turbos but more than likely I'll be on the lookout for an s13 t25 or the like. Something small that bolts up to my manifold. I guess if anyone in the area know where I could find one, hmu. I'm going to continue browsing threads to get a better idea on where to go from there, but I'm thinking about tilting the rad back and running some 1.75" pipes over the top and sticking the IC between the rad and the condenser. I have PS and A/C and I'm not getting rid of them. If this is a really stupid idea, I'm more than happy to hear why. Oh yeah, I've soldered together a speeduino v0.4, just waiting on an ecu connector, so that's what I'll be running (looks like the 1.6 connector is discontinued pretty much everywhere, but I'm thinking I can just run the 1.8 connector and leave out the middle plug?).

The hope is to make just enough boost to have a little fun, but not enough to break the car quicker than I can afford to fix it for now. Honestly, 160hp or so sounds perfect to me so I'll make that my goal for this summer.

Anyways, I hope everyone had a great Wednesday.
Cheers,
Owen

Welcome! Glad to have you here and can't wait to see how your turbo build comes along. Post some pics of the car if you got em! What other mods have you done so far?

Non-AC/PS guy here. I pulled the AC and power steering out of my car before turbo-ing it and it made the hotside intake piping a breeze to install. I haven't done a turbo install on one of these cars with AC and PS but compared to my buddies' experiences with routing the hotside tubing, mine seemed pretty damn easy haha.

Just a data point though. There's definitely days I miss having AC although I can't say the same about the power steering. It's all pros and cons. Maybe some other guys will weigh in on this.

At any rate, good luck with the build and keep the thread updated!

-Zak

Greetings, I'm about 5 minutes north of you towards Fergus.

You'll want to join the Miata club canada Facebook group and the GTA used miata parts group. You should be able to find what you're looking for locally there.

Power steering delete is 50/50. It can be nice some days but any Miata feels dead in comparison after having driven a deleted one.

There's a few local Miata groups as well. We frequently do trackdays at TMP and Mosport if you'd like to come with.

So far no mods other than NB2 surfboard seats. And I just joined both of those groups, thanks! I'll definitely have to consider a PS delete, if hotside routing is still easy even if I keep AC then I might rethink the whole routing. Putting the manifold together ended up being a bit more work than I could accomplish at work in two hours but I should be able to finish it sometime this week and I'll post pics of it when its done. For now I'll just put in some pictures of the car and of the engine rebuild was working on between work and school for the last while. The motor is in the car now and I fired it up for the first time a couple weeks ago.
