Awesome! this is just for a second opinion but I have ~$5000 and was curious what setup would you purchase with that amount roughly? I know i need a better clutch and am getting the FM happy meal as well as the 6 speed trans to support more power. so after that roughly $3700

I'm not the right person to ask.

I've had a turbo Miata or three, and the n/a car i have now is my favorite.

If i had $5000 i'd start with Xidas, Racing beat front bar, MSM rear bar, 15x9s, 225/45 tires, Trackspeed front brakes.

1.6 clutch and flywheel setup if i still had enough money.

Other than that... it's all about personal preference. Does $3700 get you an FM2 kit without the Hydra? That's always a nice setup. $3700 should get you damn near a Rotrex C30-74/94 with no electronics.

But the electronics are important, so you'll need a grand or so for that at a minimum, call it $1300-$1500 for nice stuff. Leaves you $2200. Do you have a diff? You'll want that, too.

What i'm getting at is.... $5000 gets you a nice set of supporting modifications to add forced induction to later.

Okay thank you. The events I attend have me torn to say the least. Import alliance is mostly show and street car takeover is all speed and thus my mind is twisted.

MiataTurbo Circle of Life:

1) Build budget turbo car
2) Sell budget turbo car
3) Build baller turbo car
4) Do first track day
5) Sell baller turbo car or part out turbo setup
6) SuperMiata n/a track car glory

Up to you if you want to skip the middle steps, or if you want to do it the hard way, or if you feel confident that you'll never want to go back.

Sounds like you aren't jonesing to buy things RIGHT MEOW, so we should probably get you in my car and see what you think.

So much truth in this post.
Here is how to hit 300-350 the right way:
Ed's bad time
G breaks everything on the path to glory
My opinion is you should learn to drive the car well NA first.
Go around the track with a good driver in an NA miata. It's eye opening.
350 WHP will kill you in short order if you aren't a good driver.

Those posts were definitely eye opening. Sadly i don't know of any track days around me, however I enjoy driving brown counties twisty bits and would say i can hold my own through those in my mostly stock car.

Brown County is pretty straight.

A 200-250whp Miata is pretty easy. Until you've been in a Miata making 200whp, you don't really know if you want 350whp. A 200whp Miata feels quick. A 250whp Miata feels fast. A 300whp Miata feels crazy.

Lol, wasn't trying to make you give up.
OTOH, you could spend all of that turbo money on a proper suspension, wheels, tires etc., and end up with a very nice car.

That is something I'll have to research further. Haven't done as much on suspension but from what I've read I did make a good choice in wheels and tire size at least.

You were probably reading on Miata Club on Facebook, then. No offense meant. If you're happy with it, that's cool.

The wheels you can work with. They need some decent 205/50s on them though. 195/45 is stance crap and there's no good tires available in that size.

What tires would you suggest? I do have some in my mind really nice Toyo in that size and they are actually 195/50 my mistake

RE71R, Rivals, 595 RS-R, V720, etc... pretty much any of the current crop of the ST class 200tw tires are good.

But, it's all about a balanced car. If you're not interested in running tires like that, then that's fine too.

Making 200-220whp with a supercharger can be done by just buying a kit with an intercooler and standalone ECU. Nothing difficult and it's reliable. Past that you start doing custom parts and different supercharger depending on your goals. I have a decently quick SC miata, but I had to design and build everything for the SC setup and it costed way too much and took way too long to do. For 350whp, a turbo setup will be faster, easier, and more reliable. That said if you really want a supercharged car for whatever reason, 350whp or even more is possible, just bring the check book.

Megasquirt ECU, MK Turbo kit, clutch, injectors, eBay intercooler, 205/50 15s, more aggressive brake pads, smile.

I just purchased ms2 and recently installed ceramic pads with drilled and slotted rotors. From what i understand the t28 is the better miata turbo?
