Default Hey (and looking for a TiG MSM :) )

Hey guys,

Not a new Miata or Miata-to-be owner, but have been out of the loop for a while due to getting married, and needing something bigger to fit groceries for more than one person in. :-/ Driving a Turbo, stick shift outback is really not a replacement, and I miss my go-kart Miatas. :(
Have had a half dozen Miatas, NAs including a 93LE and a street/track turbo'd car, a SC-ed and turbo'd NB, etc.
It's pretty cool to see people going 300+ HP on built BP engines somewhat regularly now, as previously, well - we saw when/where lots of stuff was breaking anyways.
Never got into drag cars, and track to me = auto-X and road course HPDEs, although thought about building a Spec Miata at one point.

As the title alludes to, I am looking for a clean MSM, preferably TiG, with < 75K miles and 'the expected' mods - rollbar, intake/dp/exhaust = all good. Willing to fly and drive.
Yeah, so next Q = why, when I can get a clean NB for 5K + FM, Fab9, MKTurbo, <something> is:
  • the suckiness of NC, which doesn't exempt OBD2 testing until a car is 35(!! - didn't even start until what, 96?)
  • I work too much and have a whole lot less project time than I used to, so want a more or less ready to go + minor mods, reliable vehicle at this point. Can always add a project car later that isn't a daily driver.
  • Oh yeah, and I like TiG - a prior silver car I put an LE interior and burgundy top on, looked nice, and the TiG is just a sweet color IMO.
So, there ya go - hey all.

Updating - doing a fly and drive, picking up a TiG w/47K on the clock on Thursday.

Have most plans laid out as well as a handful of questions as some aftermarket options have expanded/changed/possibly improved since my last NB build. Will try to find an appropriate place to post them.

Flew to Atlanta, shuttled to Athens, GA, and now in Savannah. Took some time off work and doing a roadtrip with the wife up the coast for a bit.
Dark/night potato pic for the moment.

47k, fully stock other than FM downpipe and catback. The Bilsteins and 17s could be better over some of these lovely 'road ridges from hell' they seem to put in some places when speed limits change, but will be going to 15s soon enough.

Found a really cool restoration and auto shop in the near literal middle of nowhere. Lenny's Auto has some cool toys, had pulled in as it has Gas Station signs and hasn't seen civilization in a while so was hoping to get some Gatorade and water. No pumps but neat 40s-60s cars everywhere, some free ice cold water from the shop, showed the Mazda speed and signed the wall. Really unexpected but a very cool place.

Using the toolbar image seems to be adding like attach vs embedding at least on my iPad, trying again.

Edit 2 or 3 or. Damned imgur app links. At least the first pic should be embedded right now; )

Now heading to the mountains for a few days with it.
Jonesing for an intake and shifter, and need to sort out current AL rad options.
Posted a WTB ad if anyone has any msm-appropriate parts they're wanting to part with.

You're about to go down a well worn rabbit hole of mods, you should start a build thread to document it.

I'd suggest you start looking for an ECU before you get too carried away with the bolt-on mods, the ECU is the best bang for buck mod you can make to an MSM. An intake and exhaust might seem simple, deliver power and cool sounds, but an ECU will let the car run properly.

I have a fairly detailed build plan, but also some questions (such as replacement rad and silicone hoses for MSMs as it seems some AL rads under perform vs the OE thicker MSM rad. ) - keep Qs in a single large build thread or separate threads?

Congrats! TiG crew checking in. Agreed on megasquirt being a must-do mod. It's the next big purchase I'm making for my 04 MSM.

keep questions in your build thread mostly.

Home in one piece. 3 states, about a half dozen beaches, 4 or so cities, and some time in the mountains.

Shorty antenna arrived while gone, waiting on MR shifter, sorting which rad (low miles but starting to go green - better early than surprised), and looking for a used Bell, FM or AEM intake.
MS3 is on the list, but not this week. Need to get a rollbar, IC, and the above as well as 15" wheels on it first.

The 949 or trackspeed or CSF are all good options. Something tried and true is helpful for the radiator so you don't end up running into issues as soon as you decide you want more boost!
