Denoobification?
Hey all,
This is my first post on here. I currently own a 95 miata purchased last september, this is my first miata. Bone stock with 120k, everything on the car is great shape, besides a few parking lot dings. Today I ordered the Begi-s kit, and was told that it will be shipped within 2 weeks. IMG_6010-1-1.jpg?t=1218059435
Im starting with the Gt2554 for right now, as I dont need too much power and to be breaking it all the time.. That never happens.
I am not completely a noob to cars, I have had a handfull of vws, currently have a mk2 jetta TDI, and mk2 gti 16vt.
Looking forward to being a member here
Thanks
PS What kind of clutch and drivetrain life are you guys seeing with similar setups? (not racerboys)

And, profile updated. Very nice start.
As to the drivetrain, if you keep it below 240HP, the general consensus is that stock is fine (unless you beat on it), but the clutch needs to be upgraded above 200HP or so.

You're "probably" gonna be OK on the stock clutch with the "S" at the base boost level. If you turn it up any more than the 6psi it comes with... you'll find the limits of the clutch... a few launches will show you.
Standard no-brainer clutch upgrade on a 1.8 good to upwards of 220whp (10-12psi) is an ACT-HD. If you're looking for stock pedal effort but need the extra clamping, then get the HD pressure plate and a 6puck sprung disc. Good to the limits of the 2554r.
Installing the clutch at the same time you do the turbo is highly recommended. It does away with a lot of the double efforts.

And before you turn up the boost... how about new tires/wheels/rollbar, maybe a brake upgrade(pads/lines)... hell, at least a voodoo ****.
And don't forget a new fuel filter before you drive the thing in boost... and make sure you've got a fresh tank of 93oct.

Thanks for all the input. Im kind of just hoping that the clutch can hold up for a while, it seems to be pretty solid with 60k on it or so. Then once it blows im going to put something more aggressive in, just not to the point that my leg gets soar driving the thing ha.
Haven't decided on my exhaust yet most likely temporarily I am just going to either:
A) Put a cutout after the downpipe to run wide open
B) Mufflerectomy
C) 2.5'' straight to stock muffler
Eventually I will have more option$, most likely a 2.5'' to a universal 3'' autozone replacement muffler; I want to hear music and passengers.
As for the rest of the car I have an oem hard top that needs a respray. I plan on putting some lower, stiffer suspension on, sway bars, and a roll bar. Its deffinetely going to need bigger brakes. And as for wheels its most likely getting cheap light ones with autox only tires. I am just a poor college kid trying to have some fun and putting a turbo on it seems like the most fun to dollar ratio

The stock exhaust is not your friend. In the end, it's the overall diameter that's the biggest restriction. Don't waste your time gutting the stock muffler. A 2.5" midpipe+stock gutted muffler still leaves you with a 1.5" tip. You can make or buy on eBay a bolt-in test pipe that you will notice the improvement... but other than that, save for a 2.5" Enthuza.
