Default Hi from the UK

Hi all,

Been lurking here for a few years... still got lots to learn, but my thinking is changing from S/C to turbo ... had a ride in a mates FM2, and the thing that changed my mind was no lag at all!!

So I'll be looking around to try and work out what I need to do to get my car quicker than his! He has a Mk1 1.6, currently running 252bhp... so no easy task!

My project car is a 1991 V limited with a transplanted 2003 Mk2.5 Sport engine. It's not running yet, but hopefully will be running in a few weeks. Plan is to get it running NA just to do a health check on the engine, and then start building again over the winter. I've been gathering parts for a while... have a set of Carillo Rods, Adaptronic ECU and some other bits so I guess I need to find some pistons for a start.

After that, I need to work out what turbo / manifold / etc... so I'll be doing a lot more lurking and hopefully not asking too many dumb questions!

Russell.

Yeah thats me, concentrating on building my own car at the moment though...

I took it off the road in february to change the clutch, and what was going to be a quick swap turned into something a lot bigger!! Bought a supercharged car to run around in while I sorted mine out... then had to repair that, and ended up respraying it, etc, etc... Jeez if I could only concentrate on one car at a time!!!

Suppose I ought to introduce the cars too...

This is my main car, off the road at the mo but destined for great things once I can stick to a plan for more than 5 minutes!

This is the Mazdaspeed.. started out silver and rusty, I've sorted the sills/ arches and resprayed it. The s/c needs setting up properly as the idle is all over the place, but at least I'm not embarrased to be seen in it!

And this is the Wataru... slightly longer term project this one...

and what it should look like

Been digging around and asking a few friends about turbo setups etc, got a text from a mate "One word... Absurdflow". So I jump on their site and found some of their cars on Youtube .... damn, this is going to be fast... but expensive!!

Hi Russell

I'm excited to see what you come out with in the end. Was looking forward to meeting you this weekend at the Nutz meet but obviously your 5 collection is keeping you too busy .

Is the Mazdaspeed an OEM colour?

I was gutted to miss it, but thought I'd do better getting the car right than rushing it... would have been great to know what power the engine had as a base though!

The Mazdaspeed is BMW Spakling Anthracite... lovely colour, shame the paint job was not to the best standard. I've spent the last 3 weekends flatting and polishing and respraying bits... should have just taken it to Painter Dave!
