Last week I took the rusted, hacked together exhaust (welded to the cat) out and replaced it with a cheapo ebay rice pipe. The car sounds pretty bad when it's cold, but gets better once it warms up. Anybody know the reason for this?

I've got my valve cover off for painting right now. The paint job is a straight up imitation of the "Pride" fork by Deathspraycustom.com. Pic:

Here's an "in process" pic of the VC:

Also received an exhintake cam from dcamp2. Thanks.

I'll finish up the VC tomorrow and try to throw the cam in, but I might not get that far because of rain and my lack of garage space.

All back together. Exhintake feels a little more peppy, but nothing huge. Kinda wasn't worth it.

By the way, that Jackson racing intake is a massive pain in the dick. I hate that thing.

Did my first autocross today. That **** is fun. Unfortunately it was the last one of the season. I definitely have some work to do on my driving. Better suspension and more rubber wouldn't hurt either.

If I ever got on here outside of work, this thread would actually get updated. [sigh]

Update time:

Got rid of the gross charcoal canister:

Got this Riceland header from 'Heyitsryan'. I'm not entirely sure why since I plan on the turbo thing soon, but why not? I was going to get it blasted and coated, but I'm way too lazy to do that if I don't plan on keeping it long term.

Installed:

Here is the "easy" way to get rid of the EGR tube:

And some goodies to be installed soon:

Sometime this week I'll have to figure out the ECU thing.

Got my car running on the ms3. Never got around to setting base timing since the goddamn Jackson racing intake was in the way of the timing light. I'm excited to get my dirty hands on this tuning thing.

Setting base timing is like 50% of the reason to have a megasquirt. That and controlling fuel.

Haha I wasn't planning on skipping it. It just got dark and I didn't feel like doing anything else today.

I got a chinacooler. Nice and small for minimal radiator blockage with 2" inlet/outlet for easier routing.

And here's a picture of me testing a thermostat.

Also, you guys should criticize my AFR table:

I realize I could change the y axis to get more resolution since I'm still N/A, but I don't think I really need the extra resolution. In other words, ignore the stuff above 105 kpa.

You're about a point rich for street driving, and .5 rich for track driving in the 100kpa area.

Since 100kpa is your max for NA, I generally like to have a 100 row. The 95/105 pisses me off, you're tuning off the average of the two.

In your 80kpa row, there's a few 13.2s, I'd leave your economy cells and make everything else above and to the right 13.2 as well.

Find where you idle and make it 14.7

Find where you cruise and make it 15-15.5. I'm guessing you'll only be using 2-3 cells for cruise, much less than you currently have.

Thanks for the feedback Curly.

I had it tuned a bit rich on purpose while I was figuring everything out with the Megasquirt. I'll have to go back in there and change the richest cells to 13.2. I like the idea of making a 100kpa row. Although I never was able to get higher than the 95kpa cells during WOT.

I was under the impression that a smoother AFR table would lead to a smoother VE table and a better mannered tune, which is why there is such a gradual change between cruise cells and everything else. I do think that my cruise area has a little too much "influence" on the rest of the table though.

It seemed like my idle was a little happier with more fuel. It was 14.7 before. Although I've had more trouble tuning idle than anything else TBH. Are most people running 14 BTDC at idle?

My ******* car just got stolen.

If you live in the Northwest, keep your eyes out for a merlot Miata. It had a Flyin Miata sticker on the back window, and a stubby black antenna.
