Default new and building a monster

Hey all
Decided to buy a Miata to autocross. Been running an AWD laser for several years and want to go low and light.
Just bought a 91 w/ a Greddy but have not picked it up yet. It will never be licensed. It will be a racecar only.

Here is the goal:

The goal is 1700lbs and 226hp for a ratio of 7.5lbs/hp. It will be an xp car on 15x10s. It will not have an interior to speak of - no dash, carpet, etc. A lexan windshield. No mirrors, lights, etc. Downpipe and motorcycle muffler. Just skins for the hood, trunk, and doors. Some of the wiring will get removed. And that's all before I start really looking for the small stuff.
By the way, any leads on light wheels? I know of Real, Bogart, and Keizer. 949 only makes 9" wide and I need 10s. I was hoping to find something a little less pricey than the three brands mentioned above.

read the noob faq.....add location to profile...update sig.....

your dream of having a "monster" is great, but I think a better approach would be to have lurked and read up on the many informative threads here. Jumping in claiming to build a monster and asking where to buy wheels will not get you taken seriously, at least by me anyways. Everyone wants to build a monster/fast car...its how you go about doing it that matters.

and finally, welcome

/\ what he said....

CCW might be worth calling about some wheels. PM "dans creations" here for pricing info/details on ordering.

SEARCH Read faqs and stickys.

949 has made a batch of 10" wide wheels before.

Well gee. Thanks for the warm welcome.

1. I put in a location
2. I did not fill out a sig because the car isn't even in my possession yet.
3. I see no sticky for a Noob FAQ
4. It's not a "dream". I'm pretty sure I'm capable considering the vehicles I've built over the years. It WILL be a reality.
5. Let's see. I mentioned 4 places to buy wheels and only asked if anyone knew of a source I am unaware of. I guess it's not acceptable to ask questions on this forum even after doing a search for wheels.

Again, thanks for the warm welcome.

Either look around at some of the other intro posts and newb threads or just take my word for it, you got a very warm welcome compared to what people normally get. There haven't even been any ban threats yet for crying out loud!!

I've had nothing but poor communication with 949. I PM him, he says check the website it will answer my question. Doesn't even answer my question. So I look on the site and don't find the answer, again. So I PM him and he doesn't respond.

Yeah we don't hold hands around here. Your grammar is ok, that's a plus. You didn't ask a bunch of stupid questions, that's a plus.

Go to the main page. It list all the different forums. There's one for DIY turbo stuff, prefabed stuff, miata in general, engine management, and several others. Click each one and at the top there will be stickies. Read through them. That will keep you busy for a while. I will stop, I'm not the newb police.

Where's Samnavy when you need him?

That's weird, I bought my MSPNP from him and he gave me great service. He even gave me some phone numbers to call to help with a project I had.

Welcome to the forum.

They are refering to the DIY all in one post under the DIY section.

Anyway. You shouldn't have any problem getting 226hp with management. But I don't know much about hacking up the interior for weight.

Good luck.

I had an AWD turbo laser for about a year, fun car before I melted the motor (literally welded part of the piston to the head).

How bout a mods list on the laser and some pics?

Thanks

I know a 91 that is down to 1900lbs and I can see an easy 100lbs that can be removed and after that I'll have to get down to the nitty gritty to get to my 1700lb goal.

Within reason, it's easier to add power to get to your goal. Sure, you might be able to get to 1700 if you remove enough, but it would be easier to get to say 1900 and then add some boost. But if you get to 1700 go for it. You know there's a lightweight miata forum, right? Might wanna check it out. That laser looks crazy.

Is RMCELWEE's car still for sale? 'Cause this build sounds exactly like what he has/had.

Welcome!

I think they didn't get enough deposits for the 10" wheels.
