Default New guy looking for a Miata

Hey all. New to miatas but not new to the car scene...

Just a brief history about myself.. been a Lexus guy all of my driving years and i love them to death. I enjoy the Lux life but then again do not enjoy the gas prices... Owned a SC400, Supercharged GS400, and a second Supercharged GS400. lol...

anyways so im looking for a miata, more specifically Mazdaspeed Miata MX5...

and i found one local but i need some guidance.

Specs on the car..
Bone Stock 2004 MSM with 91k miles on it.
Exterior is rated at a 6.5 outta 10
Interior is rated at 7.5 outta 10
Engine is unknown since i did not test for compression n what not but it feels ok. not as fast as my previous cars but ehh.

Issues:
-Car has 91k miles and owner purchased from Auction (most likely to flip)
-Maintenance logged up until 50k but beyond that is unknown
-most likely will need ALL major maintenance done
-All fluids needs to be replaced
-Possibly clutch will need to be replaced in the near future
-door lock does not work? (actuator maybe)
-minor paint scruff front bumper
-speaker on driver door doesnt work (from what i hear)

The car drives fine from what i felt.. Drives its age. Have to drive it again to see since i only took it for a small spin...

What do you guys think is a good asking price?

oh n heres my past car.

Please don't slam your miata and retard it out like that lexus.

That poor poor lexus.

It's probably wondering what it did wrong to deserve to be slammed like a 2 dollar d0r1f0 ***** and trashed.

oh and welcome

My opinion is to steer clear of that MSM. If you are in no rush, you will easily find a better non-MSM turbo Miata for the same price or cheaper with better hardware.

depends on the price. I'd rock an MSM in a heartbeat, but only for the right price. if its tired and salvaged, the price better be killer...

The asking price was 8.5k. Figure giving him a reasonable offer to offset the cost of maintenance n repairs would be fair.

Reason why im looking for a miata is because my GS recently got T-boned at the intersection. Figure its time to try a new brand out... also kinda got tired of 19 mpg highway.

msm isn't much better on fuel mileage actually. their ecu sucks.

and unless he lets it go for under 7 I'd pass

I am with 18psi. $7,000 would be my top dollar. Look on here at the classifieds and you will see what you can get in your price range. You should add your location too, I forget where it was (found it on CL), but I remember seeing a MSM for sale with the FM upgrade kit for around $11,000.

Ill shoot for 6 and let it work its way up but agree.. no more than 7k due to the major headaches it can cause.

Is there anything specific i should check again on the car? like major MSM flaws (engine/suspension/interior) stuff.

Do some high RPM shifts and make sure all the synchros are ok.
