Default New owner of a 96, complete turbo newb

Hello!

I recently picked up a 96 black miata. I bought it off the parents who have recently upgraded to a G8 GT for a weekend car. I decided I want to dabble with motors / turbochargers and it would probably be best if I don't blow up the DD. I've been doing some lurking and reading on this forum over the past few days, annoying the girlfriend that I haven't been paying her much attention. This place is full of great info, even basic info in one of the stickies - stuff that is essential to learn when stepping foot into this area.

In any case, here's a few pics.

The wheels have to go, and the brakes could use some attention - but I believe their poor performance is due to the giant shiny weights they are trying to stop.

And of course I had to buy SOMETHING to solidify my plans.

It's from a diesel - However after speaking with Garrett, this is a variant of a GT3076. The hot side is 1.0A/R, so I will be buying a different turbine housing to get that lower. Got the unit for a steal.

Plans are simple, do it big and right from the start.

The build won't happen overnight, but I do plan to be quite a long resident here

P.S. DD is a 6MT TL, love the car, but just don't think I should "risk" it with turbo experimenting.

I think you'll be amazed when you get new wheels and tires.

I've got a '90 turbo Miata and a G8 GT (for when I need 4 seats). Having a Miata is an excellent way to keep miles off the Poncho. The G8's are already collectibles. The going prices now are more than what I paid in early 2010.

It's not that the G8 isn't fun to drive, it is. But the Miata . . . well, you get the drift.

It was sold as an R package where it was purchased, but without running the VIN I am sure it's not -- I could be wrong. No front or rear lip, has tokico suspension, and the rear spoiler looks like it might have been red at some point. I am pretty sure it did a 1 wheel peel when I brought it home in the rain the other day, but who knows. I will have to dig deeper when I get some time.
