Default PdXocet's Intro

I have been lurking on this forum for quite some time. I am new to the miata world, in fact the only miata I have owned was totaled in an accident before I even purchased it.

That miata is no longer with us as I completely tore it to pieces to start my current build. I am building an Exomotive exocet, the kit should be arriving at my house within the next couple of weeks. My first plans were to start off with a budget build and then slowly upgrade. Things have changed as I have sent everything off to be powder coated, decided to go with new coilovers and just yesterday picked up a used FM turbo manifold with a garrett 2560 turbo.

I am now looking into the MS line of ECU products and can't decide whether to build a DIYPNP or go full standalone and completely ditch the miata harness and ECU. I would be using a EZ wiring harness for the rest of the cars electrical needs.

Welcome to the forum.

The stock harness would likely need a lot of wires removed from it. Lots of people have done that. It may be easier to build your own, but I wouldn't. All of the engine connectors will already be there and in the correct places and you can remove the ones you don't need.

Good luck!

Exocet builds are always awesome. Don't forget to start a build thread and post a lot of pics!

I'm with Six on the harness. Having had my hands in an Exo I'm pretty sure it'll be a lot easier to work with the stock harness just to get things running. Start N/A with the stock ECU and work up from there. This will give you a chance to eliminate variables while you work out the Excocet's other ...eccentricities.

Welcome to the forum!

That makes sense. I just figured it would probably take as much time to diet the harness as it would to build the new setup. Then I wouldn't be dealing with a 20 year old wiring harness. I am probably going to regret doing all of this at once. But I plan to have the turbo installed before I drop the engine back on the ppf. It will be much easier to install it while the engine is out.

I am going with a fm stage 1 clutch and need to figure out injectors. I'm wanting around 225whp and it looks like the rx8 yellow injectors are my most affordable choice that isn't super old technology.

I will also be going with a coolant reroute and basic engine maintenance (timing belt/ waterpump).

You will, until you drive it for the first time

Sounds like you are on the right track, catching up on basic maintenance is NEVER a bad idea.

But seriously, start a build thread. I think we have 3~4 excocet builds going on the forum right now, and I can think of no better place to get hardcore nuts and bolts data about the Miata chassis/platform than here on MT.

I will start a build thread this coming weekend. My kit should be arriving very soon. I was going to order some vmaxx coilovers for it but now I am second guessing myself. I'm thinking maybe just buy some used msm bilsteins and use the stock msm springs for now as I can get a set for cheap. Then I can think about xidas next year. I figure the stock msm suspension should feel about right with a 1500 lbs car. My budget is getting out of control at this point. My wife is going to kill me if I don't stop ordering parts.

I absolutely hate my Vmaxx's, so don't do that.

That's a good plan. The Bilsteins will always be worth money so you can get what you've got in them back out when the time comes. And for about $70 bucks you can make them have adjustable height coilovers (see Bilstein thread).

You're in Portland, right? Talk to Ed (turbofan), he bought a 10ae shell with 10ae suspension, plus he has his FCM suspension, both of which should be for sale since he ordered 949's big grip kit, which includes Xidas.
