Default V8 Miata and turbo miata projects. I win!

Looks like I joined awhile ago, cant remember I posted before, anywho

For ***** and giggles, I'm turboing one of my (12 or 13?) miatas and will be poking around this site a bit more. I'm not a miata guru by any means, more of a hoarder, and they just kinda fall on my lap.

Car is a 91 autotragic I picked up from the first owner last week in great shape, donor car is another 91 with low miles/salvage title/manual (did you guys know the auto motors had lower compression than the manuals? Lame, so the whole drive train will be swapped

Heres the recipient ( the 82 widebody mazda RX7 and 78 big bore porsche 924 in the backround are mine as well, had to move some cars around in the driveway. also have a 240sx and yamaha R1 not in the picture, all the miatas are at a nearby garage)

Here the donor car for the drivetrain that will get the siqq turbos. Just picked it up yesterday

Here's the car as of this afternoon. Dash was taken out after the video, but still runs! Drivetrain will be pulled early next week, and into the redcar by the end of the week

Bunch of parts are already in the mail: 14b turbo, manifold, downpipe, intercooler, 16x8 0et wheels, and will be poking around for the ems (already sure it will be the DIY megasquit kit) bov, oil cooler, etc. Car wont be anything special, just something to drive till winter hits

And for kicks, the V8 project (motor pulled from a 65k vette stingray). Yes, its carb'd, yes it was intentional, no I didnt want a LSx, shut up about the weight difference, I know what I'm doing.

Very good intro post. Welcome to miataturbo.net.

What has made you end up with so many miatas?

What manifold and downpipe specifically do you have coming in the mail?

Why not keep the lower compression auto motor and turn the boost up more?

Truth be told, they kinda fall on my lap, and I don't even think they're worth what they sell for for what the car is. Basic car, basic design, basic everything. Reminds me of the jeep wrangler. Anyway, it usually goes like this;

Friend: Hey Adam, I saw this miata for sale
Me: I dont want it, already have X of them and like, no room
Friend: $400 bucks, everything runs, fender bender, good for parts
Me: FUUUUUUUUUUU
And now there's more than I can count

noname manifold/downpipe, I was going to throw some steel on the Bridgeport and make all the flanges and TIG up the pipes, but for $250 for both, I'll save a lot of time and beef these ones up

Whelp, blue car's motor has lower mileage, better condition, and already attatched to the manual transmission, so it's really going to take about the same amount of time to swap the whole drivetrain than to swap the trans alone

more info on the widebody FB? I'm an rx7 owner as well (FD) so I've got a soft spot for the older models.

Was used exclusively at the track for many years by the previous owner, and I picked it up when the turbo'd 12a motor blew and he put the stock one in and sold it. Most of the interior was gone and I've since started replacing the original red interior with a much nicer black. However, with this turbo miata project coming up, I'm parting with the RX7, currently listed on my local craigslist (rochester NY). You should buy it!

ha, I've got one money pit rx7, don't need another, especially if I'm gonna throw some boost at the miata.

Ha, smegma = gross!

And check this out, the turbo manifold and downpipe I ordered was sent back midshipment, and my money was refunded! I called the company and he claimed their distributor fudged up the part and though they were made for the miata, there was fitment issues! Haha. I'll go for round two and order another set this week, I still have the motor and trans to swap first
