Calling all megasquirt geniuses I need your help!! 2jz Megasquirt EMS Pro
Well well well, after dealing with my car for a while now I am tired of the piggy back band aid crap so I have been searching for what I need for tuning my 2jz. I need help working thru a few things. I think I want to run the Spectre EMS-pro witch is based off megasuirt and makes my life easy for the most part.
eMS-Pro Electronic Fuel Injection System with 8' Harness | EFI SourceEFI Source
This is what I am thinking of buying. I dont really think I need a MSII and I like to keep it as simple as possible. Below will be what I understand and have no problem with and what I need cleared up.
Required inputs:
• 12 volt switched ignition - can wire this no problem lol
• Chassis or battery ground - I hope I can find this one too
If I was to use a cam sensor I would be installing a magnet on my cam gear and mounting a sensor this is the best option at the moment.
• Coolant Temperature
• Intake Air Temperature
Will use GM sensors easy to get and I have the IAT already
• Manifold Pressure
-4-bar (40+ psi) map sensor included inside the eMS-PRO unit
Will prob wire in GM 3 bar but could use internal one too
• Throttle Position
-Any OEM 0-5v sensor can be calibrated to the eMS-PRO
will use stock toyota one its is 0-5v
Should I use more than one?
• Engine Position, one of the following -
-Points
-Distributor Sensor (any magnetic, hall, or optical input)
-Crankshaft Trigger (hall/opto or magnetic; multiple tooth patterns supported)
I am not going to use my distributor I will be deleting it. I can use the toyota crank sensor as long as I get a new crank timing gear. I have two options in number of teeth 12 teeth evenly spaced or 36-2. I do not have a gear yet so I will be ordering one to use. I believe one is a halo and one is a mag.
After I figure out witch crank cam gear is best the next problem I have is the injectors and the ignition.
The EMS-pro only has two injector banks. My plan is to wire them in two banks. Does anyone see any probelm with this I know sequential would be better but I do not need that I believe batch fire injectors will be fine.
Cyl 1,3,6 one bank one
Cyl 2,4,5 one bank two
Ignition this is my other big problem I dont really understand. The unit has 4 ignition outputs so I can do wasted spark that is how my car is setup now and I like it so I have no problem with it. The question is how do I fire the coils.
Can I use LQ9 coils and just send the fire signal directly to them since they have ignitors built into them? If I do this I will be using one wire and splitting it to fire two cylinders will be fired together. Each has its own coil I will just be splitting the signal wire to two coils.

2,5
3,4
Other option is I have coils made for wasted spark so like the Miata VVT coils one is COP with a wire runing to the next. Mine are IS300 coils.
If I use the coils I have how the hell do I fire them from what I read the factory ignitor does not work with megasquirt so what would you do.
So to recap should I use just a crank sensor or a crank and cam is there an advantage to having both.
Is there a difference between a 12tooth or 36-2 tooth crank signal is one better or worse.
Should I use LQ9 coils and can I directly signal them from the megasquirt because it has an ignitor built in
If I use my factory coils how do I fire them because the factory ignitor does not work well with megasquirt
Any information would be great and very much appreciated. I need you all to help me make more HP in my 2jz!!!!!
