Default Cruise Bins and Economy Tuning

Hey guys,

I'm taking a road trip with my Miata for the first time on its newly rebuilt engine. I've been running of the PNP maps because my LC-1 is broken. I'm supposed to leave this coming Friday or Saturday. Now I know what I should do is put off the trip until I'm sure the engine is tuned correctly, but I really want/need to get out of Indiana so I'm gonna go for it.

So, what I'm looking for is someone who has a largely stock engine (1.6) with the exception of AFM removal and who is running MS and has a decent economy tune at cruise. Could someone that gets ~30mpg post their msq or their reqfuel and cruise bins.

In other news,
I'm not sure if anyone else has done it, but I got Megatune working in linux through wine. It has some issues, but is functional.
I'm still a poor college student, but soon I will be graduating. I'm still looking for a job, but if I don't find one I will have alot of free time. Either way, I'm thinking I should be able to get the Miata adapterboard I've been talking about into production this summer. I've also been examining windowed knock detection, and I think I'm going to put together what I hope will one day be the defacto standard DIY knock conditioner.

Trey

If you are determined to go why not just spend the extra money on fuel due to the safe/richer PNP maps instead of risking the cost of a motor by using someone elses maps that are tuned for their motor?

I tried tuning for economy, and maybe got an extra 4mpg out of it, with AFRs in the high 15s while cruising.

To me it just wasn't worth it all said and done. Throttle response out of those cells stinks, and you're worried the whole time feeling like you're pushing your motor.

I could post mine, but you're better off tuning you AFR target table, and running some datalogs. Shouldn't take more than two runs to see a BIG difference.

EDIT: Remember when shooting for those cruise cells on AFR table that the stock tach is a little optimistic.

EGT's get very high when running lean too. Not worth burnt valves.

Too lean is when you start f*cking things up. Google dictates that between 16 and 18 is best for economy.

But this is all very gay talk and anyone tuning for AFR > 14.7 in ANY cell that is not in boost should go here:
MX-5 Miata Forum - questions on ideal AFR for norm.asp., and how stock ECU reacts

Those who tune for AFR > 14.7 in boost will soon go here:

Stoich is more like 14.4:1 for me. stupid 10% ethanol.

if i cruise any leaner than 15.5:1 i feel a lack of power and it's a little hesitant.
