Default OK, school me on megasquirt for a '99

I think I want to abandon the EMU boat and maybe just over to the megasquirt ship! But I have a few questions about it.

1. If I run it as a piggyback, how much control do I have over fuel and timing? Better than EMU? I will be running rx7 550cc injectors. I'm a little confused but does it just add or trim fuel from the stock ecu (like EMU), or has full control of injectors (like a standalone)?

2. EmissionsI still need to pass OBDII crap here, I passed them with EMU before because I had no check engine light on, can I configure the MS to do the same thing? I'm fine as long as stock ecu doesn't throw any codes.

And just in general questions for those that run MS on '99+, what do you guys thing, how do you like it?

And lastly does anyone want to build one for me?

1. You have TOTAL control of fuel and timing. The stock ecu does nothing at that point. And you are not running it as a piggyback. Piggyback implies that it is adding additional fuel or pulling additional timing over and above what the stock ECU is doing. Parallel is not Piggyback. Series is.

2. Since your stock ECU is in place you should have no issues passing the OBDII check AS LONG AS you keep your stock ecu happy by leaving the narrowband O2 and MAF in place or trick it into thinking they are in place. Otherwise that will throw a code.

How much power you making with your built 99/2560/EMU?

You're seriously killing me Rusman, this is your 2nd or possibly 3rd thread about this. MS works great on the '99, it doesn't throw any codes. You have full control of fuel and ignition like a standalone. You can also have EBC, Launch, and you can use the knocksense with your stock knock sensor. Basically its the baddest thing around. We can even set it up so you can control VICs.
I'll build you one but it won't be for a while. I have a other's in line and I'm take a few weeks off. Sometime this summer we can work out the details though. I run he same RX7 550s as you, they idle fine and work great with MS hi-res.

Sorry dude, haha. It's just I really don't want to spend a lot of money and this EMU is giving more problems that I just can't seem to fix, and I can never make up my mind, not as bad as hustler though. You totally answered my question about the fuel and ignition, and I'm liking what I'm hearing! I think you've sold me on it. And couldn't find anything on the check engine light before, so now I know!

Right now I'm making about (guestimating) 210-220rwhp, I don't plan to go any higher than 250whp, and will probably have it turned down to about 220-230 most of the time anyway.

I could build my own megasquirt, I think, I just need to get a good soldering thingy. What do you guys recommend? I took some electronics classes at school and was pretty good at it. And I think it's a cool project that I want to take on.

Screw hydra and AEM!!!

I use a 25w radioshack iron FWIW and I've built 8 or more MS's with the same iron. It works great. Everything you need to know is in the DIY MS thread.

Ok, one more question, couldn't really find anything on this.

Megasquirt I or II? And what version PCB. After thinking about it I think it might be easier for me to buy a pre assembled kit and just build my own harness and be done with it, I'd like to get this done asap. Should I just buy the newest version or go with an older proven board?

For someone who spends alot of time are forums you're kind of retarded when it comes to reading. The first post in the main thread for building your own MS has a shopping list created just for people like you that want to build their own.
