Default Flashing File to MS2 with MS1 Mods

So I have done the searchs and read everything I could find on flashing the software to the chipset on the MS2 and MS1 but still am not finding the answer to my question

So I am flashing my MS2 tomorrow with the ms1 software...I have all the ms1 mods on the board (pwm, fan control, not doing the inverted spark yet so I will unplug coils!). running standalone 94 with everything stock (minus AFM deleted). This is on the 3.57 board if that matters

So the question would be is what gets a jumper (from what it sounds like is just the chip since its a ms2 chip, but I dont want to find out by trial and error!). Also the turbo wiki has a resister and arrow to JS0 shown under flashing the software?....no where is this mentioned under the BG site - I am guessing that was just a leftover for fan control and has nothing to do with flashing.

Thanks,

errr you can't put MS1 software on a MSII

You have to jumper the boot header on the MSII daughtercard when installing the extra firmware from the original B&G firmware, but after that it's no longer required.

So can I flash the ms2 extra then and expect it to work with the ms1 mods (i am guessing with the ms1 mods I wont be able to use the extra feature sets of the ms2)....I went this way with the intent to get it running reliably with the MS1 setup then do the ms2 mods later.....

Or should I just spend the 20 bucks and get a ms1 chip and be done with it.

Most, if not all of what you refer to as "MS1 mods" such as PWM idle control, fan control, and so on, are really just generic Megasquirt mods. Doesn't matter whether you have an MS1 or an MS2, apart from the pack that a few pin assignments change. Also shouldn't affect your ability to take advantage of the "extra feature sets of the ms2," whatever those are.

You load your unit with the correct firmware for an MS2, you tell your tuning software that you've got an MS2, and you configure the various I/O pins to correspond to the mods you've done.

Your tach input mod for the MS2 could possibly be different, depending on how you set it up originally. The ignition output mods will need to be swapped as they're backwards with MS1. And you'll need to make sure JS9 has a +12V power supply, otherwise the control circuit for JS0 and JS2 won't be energized and subsequently those outputs won't work. S12C is a convenient 12V source.

Thanks - I am just going to buy the 20 dollar ms-1 chip then as all tach and ignition wiring is all done and dont really want to f-with (they are all done per the wiki and brainiack posts) - its not alot of work but I really want to get my feet wet with the MS1 ....I dont know why I thought I could get away with a MS2 chip on MS-1 software but lesson learned. Thanks again.

all you gotta do is make sure the tach inputs are setup for MS-II. If you already have the MS-II CPU, might as well stick with it.

Yeah I could but I would have to replace R12 with a different resister, my ignition outputs are per the MS1 assembly guide so that would need to get changes, tach driver is different....all in all only 2 hours worth of work if that but I am under the impression that going the MS2 route has a much steeper learning curve so am opting to ***** out.

I will keep my ms2 chip of course and use it at a later date....I just want to get it on the track next month and get it going reliable (I will bring my stock computer and afm just in case!)

do it right the first time. you dont need to change the ignition drivers, only the tach input stuff.

there's no steeper learning curve with ms2. its just plain better.

ok you convinced me to just stick with the MS2 - all the mods are done now (i also switched the ignition while I was at it since I really wasnt to sure how I could leave that the same as MS1 (guessing I could have compensated in the software)).

So it basically follows your upgrade writeup but your writeup has the inverted spark method which I am opting not to do

Can I leave the 1k resisters in place from the LED to the other resisters (r28 and r24) or should I remove them and put a jumper there. I noticed from searchs other have left the resisters (scottFW) but was wondering if there was any reason to take them out other then being belts and suspenders.

You compensate for the ignition by swooping your plug leads between coilpacks...
