Hello everyone, this is my first post, I've been reading and learning on here for about a year as I worked on my car. Now I'm looking for some help!
This is my setup..
ebay gt2554 on 13psi
crappy manifold as well
ebay fmic
ev14 750
mspnp2
93 pump gas
stock '90 1.6 with 195k
I put down 208/205 on a mustang dyno just last week after doing some tuning, but was really hoping to make more around 230-250. Basically I'm wondering if there's anything that can be easily done from what you see here to get a little more out of the setup. I know a lot of you are going to say you're surprised I even made that with ebay parts. I do plan on upgrading in the future, but right now I'm just wondering if I can work with what i've got. Here are my tables and a quick log of a 4th gear pull. I'm not sure why I didn't rev higher, peak hp iirc on the dyno was right at 5450.
18 Psi, Just out of curiosity ( Reason I ask is I almost made a dupe account myself because I could not figure out how to change my forum name )
Is it against the rules to have more than 1 account on here? Or is the problem here that the OP is trying to be sneaky?
Take that back I found his build thread and I just got through first page of it.

It is both.
b. Accounts
For each site, a user may create, maintain and use no more than one account to post content only on his/her or its own behalf. A user must create his/her or its account personally and manually and may not create accounts by any automated means. Without limitation, this includes the obligation that the user personally and manually solves any CAPTCHA challenge in the account creation process. A user may not create or use additional accounts or any account of another and must not permit, enable, induce or encourage others to create accounts for him/her or it.
The purchase and sale of accounts and the creation of accounts for others is expressly prohibited. The circumvention of any technological restriction or security measure in the account creation process, posting process or otherwise for posting content in violation of these TOU also is expressly prohibited.
The reason is quite simply that my other account was banned (from trolling) and I'm not planning on trolling on this forum anymore (hence why I used a legitimate email for this one) I think I have 4 accounts, several of which have been inactive for a very long time due to not having access to the emails anymore. Which is also why this was a completely serious question asking for help.
I appreciate it. If it helps you to fully deactivate the other accounts, feel free. The timing was done on the dyno for the most part and tweaked afterwards. Unfortunately I don't have a knock sensor so some of it is by ear. So sort of did it backwards. I thought that's about all I could get out of the timing. Could be wrong.
Tune spark on a dyno to either MBT or a degree or two before knock limit
More boost
It's not surprise that a 1.6 with a small turbo at 13 psi makes 210, that actually seems pretty good.
Unfortunately, more boost is not an option with this setup. As you can see here, the turbo begins to run out of air at higher rpms. It peaks at right around 14.5 (which is what the mbc is set at) and then tapers off to 13.2 up top. Much of the spark tuning was done on the dyno just hitting +1 and then backing off one when needed. Some of the table was done by ear as well though. This was after playing with it a little bit more tonight.
The only thing controlling boost is a manual boost controller. The exhaust is a 2.5" with no restriction. Do you think that's why the boost drops off at high rpm? I was blaming it on the cheap turbo.
if you were using an EBC, you can keep boost flat to redline.
3" > 2.5" -- there's power to be had there.
I'm not sure how to explain. But there was an instance where the wg was not plumbed up and so was always closed. This was by accident. However, the only time it spiked above 14-15 psi was around 4200, at which time over boost protection cut the fuel. As the rpm climbed, the engine uses more air and so even with the wg shut at all times, it dropped off to around 13 psi close to redline. My understanding could be incorrect but this would indicate to me that the turbo is physically incapable of supplying more air for whatever reason. The only way to keep it flat would be to run the mbc or ebc under 13 lbs the entire time. Is that correct? Or am I missing something?
Like I said in the PM: Honestly I think it put down decent numbers for what it is. It's an egay setup, don't expect it to put down top numbers, and on top of that it's a 2554, so 230-240 on a dynojet is usually where they top out at anyway, ran at full tilt. Your tune needs more work, just looking at the VE table I can see that, and your spark is definitely on the aggressive side in the upper boost rows, so I wouldn't expect much more than this from a setup like this. definitely not 250+
You're pretty much putting down what you should be
When you say eBay 2554 I am assuming you mean a Chinese 2554 and not just a random used Garret 2554 you found on eBay. If so then yeah I think you are about at the max you will make on what you are running.

Yep you are probably right around the max it is going to make. None of the Chinese T25 turbo's are overly great.
This car was awesome to learn on. And I'm definitely happy to drive it as is, even if it didn't meet my goals. Probably next year I will try to pick up another stock miata and build it with quality parts and put in more effort, shoot for 300+. will require many research, much learning.
