Exclamation If You Bought a MS From Me And Your EBC Is Not Working

Go to radio shack or Fry's and pick up a MICA insulator kit.

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search

you need to open your MS and place it under the transistor driving the solenoid. Please PM me and I can walk you through the process.

you'll need to do it.

The ones I built that I know the EBC works, I used a small heaksink that doesn't ground out the circuit. Which is the problem.

yours is bolted to the heatsink on the board itself, which is grounded, and thus with this particular MOSFET, grounds the circuit.

the fix is as easy as unscrewing the plastic nut, lifting the MOSFET, placing the insulator down, and bolting it back up.

I feel bad. I suspected this was the problem after a few I built had issues, but no resolution. It was confirmed today that this is the case.

If Chad asks, I'll let him come back to get support on his own MS that isn't working properly.

Or I can be like FM and tell everyone I'm aware of the problem and never give them a solution. Or never walk people step by step things over the phone. Or sit online and communicate through google chat or email to resolve issues.

Yeah, the mica insulator didn't fix my own EBC when i was testing mine back when i was telling you about the FET needing to be insulated. I think i have a bad FET though, i'll test it when i get home. Glad that's fixing the problems with them.

Back when we were having issues the only way I found out we needed an insulator was by calling Matt at DIY. He then told me we all needed to use an insulator and that they were now including the insulators in their EBC kits.
So even though we've all been building MS's, there was no documentation or popular knowledge that the FETs should be insulated. Now it's well known so there's no excuses.

ok here's whatcha need to do:

Remove the two bolt/screws on each side of the serial connector.

remove the four screws holding the faceplate on the db37 side.

slide the circuit board out of the case.

This is the FET you need to install the MICA insulator under:

It has a resistor solder across the two leads, it will be on the very end of the heatsink.

Unscrew the plastic screw that's holding it down, be careful not to pull any wires out of place. Put the insulator on the heatsink under the FET. make sure it doesn't touch the leads of the FET or any think but the heatsink. Replace the FET and bolt it back down. Reassemble MS.

There are three holes at one end of the mica. Trim that end of the mica with sharp scissors or something similar as shown in the pictures here. That will make it short enough that you will easily be able to make sure it's not touching the leads. Don't trim it too short. I also suggest using a nylon screw with the fet, it should already be mounted with one though.
