You can't control the alternator from megasquirt.

No turning it off at WOT, or on cranking.

Which would burn up the battery.... Would it not?

Ok, stoopid MS Newb question.. Let's say I have a spare output.. Pretty sure I do. How do I make the MS control it?

Ok, well... I hooked the ground wire to one of the ground pins above the proto area. The +12v is hooked to one of the 3 12v pins on the edge connections of the MS, next to the INJ1 connections. The Field wire is connected to 1o.

However, no matter which way I adjust the pot.. I am not charging at all. Just a steady voltage drop.

Any thoughts?

The voltage as tested at the battery started at 12.26 but continued to drop.

If I measure it from the big wire on the Alt. it is 12.32 right now. Is this what you are asking?

Field is connected to 1o right? You need to adjust the pot until it is 0v.

Ok. I will try that. Let me put my DMM on that wire and see what I can do.

Thank you

Ok, with my DMM on 1o and on a ground in the dash, I get 11.94. No amount of turning the Pot makes any difference in this reading.

How much are you turning it. If its a 100k pot then its 22 turns total. So somewhere in the middle.

Do you have access to a variable power supply

I do not have access to a variable power supply. I have probably turned it 15 full turns with absolutely zero change.
Looks like I may have to re-install the NA Alt. and do the wiring mods.

As a side note, I see a lot of mention of a battery light. I do not seem to have a battery light in my cluster. So I wonder if that has something to do with this.

Turn it 25 turns clockwise and then 11 counterclockwise.

You should also measure the value of the pot. it should be like 50k.

Are you sure you don't have a battery light? I think all the NBs did.

Ok, I will try that. I shone a flashlight at my cluster. I cannot see anywhere it would be. Also it does not come on when I turn the key initially.

Ok. I have it so the field reads a pretty steady 0.036. But it still isn't charging. I have a second set of gauges. I installed them as well.. just in case something was busted with my custom one. Still not charging. So I guess that is not the issue.

Tomorrow I will put on my other NB Alternator... Just in case mine somehow got messed up. Although it SHOULDN'T be messed up. I am really not sure what else could possibly be keeping it from charging.

Also, that light does not come on, on either of my gauge sets when I turn the key. So I checked my spare set with the DMM. I have continuity across it. It just doesn't light up. Even when I switch it to a know working bulb.

Thats because there isn't anything to turn it on. You wire the alternator board to it.
