Default How the hell do I get the ECU out on my 2000 Miata!

Damn! It is tight under the dash. I can see the lower 10mm nut holding the ECU mount, but can't see anything up top. Can any one give me a little direction?

Started my MS install about 1 hour ago.

Pull the plastic panel covering the fuse box, remove the screws holding the fuse box and push it out of the way. looking through the spot where the fuse box sits, provides a good view of the ECU.

1) cut the wires

2) mount MS somewhere else

Maybe I should get someone to rename this thread to my Megasquirt install thread..

Install would probably be done if my soldering iron decided to work and not break!!

Is this picture assuming the CAS is installed in my engine and I am looking down at it? Or is it assuming I have a plug and I am looking as the end which plugs in? Sounds dumb, but they are different. So far I have assumed it is with the CAS looking down and not having the plug facing me.

Injector Pigtails are ready to be soldered. My stock harness now has 8 plugs 4 for OEM and 4 for RC Injectors.

Still not looking forward to getting the damn ecu out, but I will deal with the injectors and stuff tomorrow, and then I will push the car out of my 1 car garage and finish the rest of the install outside my 1 car garage.

When I had my hydra, I just left the stock ecu in place.

Pin-outs are usually looking at the actual component, not its connector, so looking at the actual CAS in this case. You should be able to tell real quick by the color codes.

I made that pinout as if you were looking down onto the connector of the CAS not the harness.

Why are you taking your stock ECU out? I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish by removing it.

You should be able to just apply velcro to the MS case, stick it to the side of the stock ECU and run all the cables that way. Worked best for me that way anyway.

I can't get the damn plugs out of the stock ecu with it bolted in place. It will be much easier if I have it loose and the secure it afterwards.

If you try as I suggested in post #3, the connectors are much easier to remove because you can see them. Sit on the ground, and just look through the fuse box panel. I have done this many times on my '00 and '01, in fact just did it again today as I am installing the Hydra.

I lay on my back and use a fat flat blade screwdriver on the backside, a stubby one. Once you've pulled them once they're much easier to remove again. Glad you got it all figured out already though.

I had hell removing my ECU plugs the first time too. Wiggle them to death. Once you get them out lube them and they will be much easier to remove after that.

I just used a 10mm socket and extension I believe, though you shouldn't have to remove it.

My MS2 is behind my passengers seat. I can sit down comfortably and access it. No more laying on my back.

Yeah.. I wanna put the stock ecu and ms1 behind my drivers seat. Make it easy to go from Megasquirt to stock ECU for e-tests.
