No, Im facing 2 (1, 2) other issues right now that I would like to solve before getting any further. And I would certainly prefer to get the MS to handle the idle valve first - then the VVT.

Just to let you know, problem number 2 is officialy a goner, it was a bug in the firmware. Get 029v which corrects the issue (random timing advance spikes and dips).

Issue #1, we are still investigating. It's not only a 2001+ issue, it affects many NAs as well (in fact several cars with similar setups are affected). I'm waiting for data from other owners (richy, mschlang and several other from the msextra.com forum) so that I can compare them with mine and see if we have some common irregular data. As one of the the MSnSe developers put it, "This is a tough one."

Where did you get your sweet little box for the shift lights?

I'm sorry I missed this; it's a small box, mainly used to house small electronics circuits. I buy them by the douzen, they turn out to be very handy. Here's an in-car photo (you can also see my custom 9K "Kawasaki Ninja" tacho, the camera's flash erased flushed some colors and the number eight), the join on the steering wheel column cover has detached so I may need to give it a little more glue:

Seeing that tach and KM/H speedo is awesome.
I saw you were building a motor. I take it with that tach and a new motor you're building it for some high rpms then, is a 8500+ RPM redline in your future?

I plan on getting the power at 7800 and a red line at 8200. Here's a mind-dyno from my own calculations:

Default Ignitor question

Noob here -

I'm setting up a race car with a '94 chassis and a '01 engine. I have a MS I V 3 built and in, modded per the DIYAutotune article. I tried using the '94 coil packs, but ohmed out the leads and one is different than the other, which suggests at least one is fried. I went ahead and ordered the '01 semi-COP coils and they will be here today. (Wish I had seen the COP threads before today - I'd probably have Toyotas on it already!)

My question is - what is the pinout on the '01 ignitor? Schematics and the posts I've read all reference wire colors, but I don't have the wiring harness (for either the '94 or the '01) so that doesn't help me. Looks like the coil plug is a 3-wire arrangement, can anyone tell me which pin is hot, trigger, and tach? (I assume it's tach and the ground it gets from the mounting bolt to the valve cover, no?)

Also, assume I'm stupid and give me a reference for which pin you are calling "1"!

Thanks!

Default '01 ignitor pin out

top is trigger
center is ground
bottom is 12 v hot

(I never did find the answer, so I guessed. I guessed wrong at first, but second time it worked. Later, I found an '01 and verified via wire colors - the wire colrs, for those of you with actual harnesses, are Blk/Yel & Brn/Wht for trigger, Blk for ground, and Blk/Wht for hot.)
