Default MS3 Pro Won't Detect in TS

Hey Guy's,

I've got an "MS3 Pro module PNP" from Braineack using one of the westfeild MX5 adapter boards (V4.0). I was going to PM Brain, but I did some google-fu last night and couldn't find anything relevant, so thought I'd start a thread for anyone in the future.

Car is a Canadian market (not sure if that matters) NB1. Just got the MS installed in the car last night and and I can't get TS to detect the ECU. I see a "USB Serial COM" show up in device manager when I plug the ECU in with or without power (Key out / Pos. 1) but TS doesn't see anything when I try to create a new project. I've tried manually installing the "FTDI Drivers" mentioned on the diyautotune downloads page, no change.

I've removed the "ST Sig" 10A fuse in the cabin fuse box before hooking up the battery. Everything I see about that fuse seems to be for the NA, which is located in the engine bay, however it is in the cabin on my car, guessing that is an NB thing.

Has anyone seen something like this before. Hoping I can't find anything on it because I'm just missing something simple. What say you all?

Software would be my guess. I'm confused what ecu you have, but if its a pnp style brain built ms3 then you shouldnt have to remove any fuses, especially in an nb
If the detect feature doesnt find your ecu with the key in run position, try updating or installing drivers for your tuning cable. If that doesnt work, change the COM channel, if not that switch usb ports.

I've got this board (made by Frank @ Westfield MX5) and this MegaSquirt module, which was bought from Brain last year. So as far as functionality is concerned, it's an PNP Pro, but in an OEM ECU housing.

There is native USB built into the Westfield board. As stated in the first post, I've tried installing the VCOM drivers, but it might be the fuse thing that is causing my issue (fingers crossed). Could you clarify that the "ST Sig fuse doesn't need to be pulled? Everything I've read seems to state that if the ST fuse isn't removed, it will cause damage to the ECU, so I'm hesitant to plug it back in without knowing I'm not going to fry something. Maybe I'm being overly cautious?

I did already try every USB port on the laptop as well as manually changing the COM port number from 4 (what it grabbed on initial connection) to COM 1, same result.

Last thing about key position, I was under the impression that to power the ECU, you only need the key on Acc. (Pos 1), not Run (Pos 2), this might be another "me being overly cautious" situation.

In my car at least, the ECU doesn't power on until the key is in the "Run" position.

Just to close this thread out. I reinstalled the "ST Sig" fuse as the "ST" fuse only needs to be removed from the 90-93 car's. Tested with the key in the run position and the ECU powers up and I can connect with TS. Thanks for the help guys.
