Default MS3PRO PNP Clutch Input Question

Hi all. Hope you're well.

I'm struggling to set up my clutch switch for launch control on MS3PRO PNP. The switch mechanically works 100%. My understanding is that you tap into the brown wire on the clutch switch and wire that to Digital In 2 on the option connector and it should *just work*.

To test the switch works in Tuner Studio, I activate PORT STATUS mode and I look for port K2, which corresponds to Digital In 2. Pushing the clutch switch in and out does absolutely nothing when wired this way.

If I remove the clutch switch from the pedal and connect one wire from the switch to the digital in 2 and the other wire to GROUND it does not work, however if I point the wire to a 12v source instead of ground it WORKS (port K2 alternates between red when the rod is out and grey when I push the rod of the switch in).

Am I doing something wrong? I thought the switch goes to GROUND, not 12v?

Launch Control

Launch control, aka the two step rev limiter, uses a rev limiter to hold the car at a designated RPM until released, for consistent drag starts. Use the Input 1 or Input 2 circuits for this. The IN pin on the input circuit connects to an external switch, and the OUT pin connects to an available output pin as indicated by the tuning software for this feature. The external switch connects to ground, and activates the launch rev limit when the input is grounded. The clutch switch usually works well for this.

Alternatively, you can use the +12 volt input – wire the IN pin to a switched 12 volt source, and the OUT pin to an available output pin as indicated by the tuning software. This will activate the launch control when 12 volts is applied to the IN pin.

From DIYs website. Are you using the upper or lower switch?

Thanks for your reply. I'm using the upper switch. In plain English, how should the upper clutch switch be wired to the MS3PRO?

My understanding was that you tapped into the brown wire on the factory wiring and ran that cable to Digital In 2, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

I had a similar issue when i installed my MS3pnppro on my na6. My issue ended up being that my clutch switch itself was broken. I bought a brand new mazda switch and all is well with it.

Had the same issue. The push rod inside the switch was broken. Took apart a spare and swapped the guts. No issues since.

My MS3 PNP did not need any external wiring done. The clutch switch is already tied into the ECU connectors. I would be surprised if the MS3Pro does not already have access to the signal. Don't know for a fact, however.

EDIT: Mine is MS3 Basic from MS-Labs. I thought I had said that, but hadn’t.

Great. Maybe I'm overthinking it. My old MSPNP and MSPNP2 required a wire to the ECU from what I can remember.
