There's only 1 plug in the pictures but the Miata ecu has 2 plugs..?

well it really does not matter how many plugs you make to connect everything really. What matters is that the correct wires are joined together in the correct way

Earlier i posted about the fuel injector outputs and deleted that but am still left with another question. I am curious as to why the stock ecu would connect injectors 1 and 3 to one wire and 2 and 4 to the other. What doesnt make sense about this to me is that when pistons 1 and 4 reach TDC, 2 and 3 are at BDC. At first I thought that maybe the strokes are offset, in that when 1 is on the exhaust stroke, 4 is on the compression stroke ... but that wouldnt make sense seeing that plugs 1 and 4 fire at the same time. Is there something I am missing here?

The answer is simple. The ECU of the 1.6l Miata does not support sequential injection. A ECU with sequential injection can open every injector seperately. This improves idling the car with really big injectors.
The 1.8l Miata has sequential injection, also the 1.6 California cars(I think).

Megasquirt does not support sequ. injection, but batch firing of 2 banks. You can call it semi-sequential. I don`t know why Inj. 1 and Inj. 3. are wired together, probably because of the firing order. 1-3-4-2

For spark: 1 & 4 are together, 2 & 3

Sorry there weren't. Unless it were an aftermarket modification *all* mx5's/Roadsters/miatas use coils.

I'm really sorry to break this to you, but you are both incorrect and insufferable.

Below is a scan from Mazda Miata Performance Handbook by Norman H. Garrett III, Former Mazda Engineer, Miata Project.

There is a pretty good chance that he knows a little more about Miatas than you do.......

Since you have joined this forum, you have made totally incorrect statements, told people who have tried to help you that we are wrong, and you have tried to sell us 'your' version of the factory ignition setup. So far your credibility isn't looking too good at all.......

im sorry i ment to say the b series engines not miata's
the 323 was distributed

from what ive found the B6 and BP (distributed) CAS output is almost the same as the wasted spark miata CAS output

i know one guy who ran his microtec ecu wasted spark triggering off a escort distributer then switched to miata CAS for looks..

[QUOTE=kags1969;34177]Here are the relevant Pinouts on the 90 ECU with wire colors... I pulled this stuff from schematics, and haven't tested it yet, but it should be close...

90 ECU Pin-out

2C = Ground (Black – Lt Green)
2E = Crank Angle Sensor (white)
2G = Cam Angle Sensor (Yellow-Blue)
2I = RPM Signal (Black-White)
QUOTE]

so 2e is the tdc sensor?? and 2g is ignition event??

I am trying to track down an issue on my install. So far I have removed D1 and D2 but not C12 and C30. I also haven't removed Q6 and Q8, I am using the stock 2002 1.8 coilpack and it seems to work fine. The issue I am having is slight misfires at idle - at least that's what it feels like.

So the question is, why are we removing C12 and C30?

Thanks,
Jim

I can't find the ECU connector that Kags uses on the boomslang.us website. If I call to order it, what exactly is it called?

Has anyone gotten the MS to work full standalone with out the factory ECU in the car?

Sorry for the basic questions

This has been really helpful, I've started a diagram for how I've wired mine in.

Are the ignitors getting conencted to pins 36 and 31?

Just email them telling them that you want and obdI ecu plug for Miata. The plug that would typically be on the ECU board.

Thats what I did to get mine.

"To continue this thread... are there 3 plugs or just 2 that plug into the plug that Kaqs is showing? I have that exact plug... If their is another part... what goes into those...."
Nm on this... saw the 90 ecu picture on Page2... it shows the same plug. 2 plugs it is .

Did this plug/play harness work/tested yet?
