Default NB not making as much power as stock ecu

I have done a few ms3 installs with good results. I recently took in a NB miata racecar with a 1,8BP motor and stock ecu. We did a pre dyno with stock ecu and made 113whp. I installed the ms3 PNP unit, wired wideband, set base timing/fuel pressure, everything looks good. Moved over to dyno and got fueling and timing squared away. I am just not making the power it should be. My last dyno pull was only 97whp. This has been the first time I cant make more power than the stock ecu. I have attached my TS project and a log from the last dyno pull. Let me know if you guys see anything major. The power band also seems pretty dippy..

Have you actually tuned advance to MBT or knock threshold?

so I’ve done a few of these with similar setups. They all ended up around 27-30 degrees from peak torque up. I have not pushed them any further as I do not have any knock detection equipment. I do have vp100 in the tank to be on the safe side though. I have never seen a stock timing map so I’m not sure what it really wants. I’m just a bit lost being 10whp off the stock “tuned” ecu when it was on 93. Are people putting much more than 30 degrees in? I wasn’t gaining or losing much adding or taking away a degree, but it’s a bit hard to quantify changes on a 100whp motor.

Comparing the oe ecu on 93 to the MS on VP100 is not comparing apples to apples. In general peek power will be at .911 (13.4) to .94 (13.8), so your a bit off there. Timing is everything for tuning NA. With VP100 you should be able to run 32-35 degrees. On 93 you might be limited to 30-32. You could always pull the plugs after a more conservative tune and read them. Sneak up on the max timing in 2deg increments. I would run a cooler plug 6-7 heat range with a .04 gap. NGK Bkr6,7eix-1.1

You're not wrong, but glancing at the map and log I can't really see any smoking guns. My guess is that somehow the ms is running less base timing even though you said you sync'd the offset.
Are you planning to always run VP? Because in that case, Leo is right: you can run way more timing. If not, then I don't see any reason to tune it this way. But then you did say adding 1-2 didn't result in more power? So yeah this is a head scratcher.

Do you decrease the gap or use pre gapped 1.1mm ?

On NA applications I try to run the largest gap that the ignition can handle. I would try them out of the box at .043" (1.1mm) and if it seems that it is missing on the top end close them up to .035". NGK does offer these in a BKR6EIX which has a.032". It is less difficult to reduce the gap then to enlarge it on the fine wire electrode plugs.
