not turning over
NeoGen. might be able to chime in here, as i bought his old unit.
Currently it's installed, getting readings, but wont catch when i crank it.
I grounded the fuel pump to ensure there was fuel, but when i crank it over it never catches.
It was built exactly to diyautotune's instructions, but Brian never had a chance to really test this unit out; As he had school, dead battery, and cold weather to deal with.
Trying to figure out what my next step should be to get this puppy to fire, I'll have a buddy who it currently running fuel only come over tomorrow for assitance, but I'm just trying to figure out where i should go from here.
Also, when trying to see if i needed inverted spark or not, both settings got the ingnitor hot, dunno what you guys are all setting it to. Currently loaded with the turbosetup.msq file.

I'm running non-inverted spark on mine, inverted spark fried my coils. This is on a '99 though.
If turbosetup.msq is from Al Hounos he had his setup that way but had modified his board with larger resistors to keep things stable that way or something. Doesn't DIYautotune say the 1.6 needs non-inverted as well?

turbosetup.msq is mine, should just be able to change the injectors settings and load it and go. sounds more like a wiring problem. have you gotten it running on fuel only yet?
spark should be set to inverted. the ignitor should not be hot. check the dwell settings possibly. but really you should just get it running on fuel first.

nope, basically had a lunch break to work on it, took the day off tomorrow to give it a shot.
wired the wb, fp & map, loaded the msq, changed the fuel settings, tried to crank, natta.

Ok, if you are getting fuel and spark, the engine will do something for sure. Sounds like for whatever reason you are not getting spark. First, are you reading RPM in Megatune? Second, are you seeing rpm on the dashboard tachometer (driven by the coils, and will be 0 if theres no spark)? Finally, check your spark output mods, i misread them the first time i hooked em up and did not connect the resistor between the LED pin and the one by the ground before bringing the signal out to the db37, if that makes any sense. Basically there are 3 points that should be connected on each and not two.
hope this helps, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this works out for you. I have found it is easy to make a good racing tune, but tuning to run decent fuel economy while retaining daily drivability has been the more difficult part for me.

my buddy coming over has a working megasquirt build the same way, it should plug in and start on the .msq file im using, if it does we know something's up with the wiring on my MS, if it doesn't then the boomslag might be to blame.
but i'll keep you updated, I'm sort of jumping into the deepend without knowing how to swim here, but i'll keep you updated, hopefully i'll have it running today, I'm confident in Brian's abilities, I drove on his last MS he built...just gotta poke around with it myself.

Ahhh...the joy of going MS. I'd still do it again, but it's not always a smooth transition...
Side note, with the ignition on and a laptop hooked up, I'd just make sure that all your gauges are getting readings. Obviously the rpm gauge will read 0, but you should have AIT, coolant temp, WB reading, etc...

That means that the MS that I sold to brad starts right up no problems. It also means that the MS I sold to Scott is having spark issues (which I stated when I sold it, so don't jump on my back). For the first one, the on I sold to brad, I did it using a combination of kags and kings worklogs. For the one that Scott now has as "his" I followed DIYautotunes instructions to the T. The MS gets all inputs correctly and outputs fuel. The DIYautotune spark instructions are not working however.
I'm no expert, but I have a good bit of electronics experience under my belt. I sold it because I didn't have time to mess with it at school, and I had drained my battery a couple times trying to get it to work. I couldn't run my car on the stock ecu to charge it because at the time I didnt have the maf here, and I had 550's in. I have been trying to help scott over the phone though so that he can get it running. Between him, me, and the friend he has over today I'm sure that it will get sorted out in short order.
