Default Ran easytherm, now MS wont communicate.

I fucked up my MSPNP.

I upgraded to 10G firmware and was driving around with the stock GM values for a while. I decided to run easytherm, so I'd be reading my stock CLT correctly. I may have screwed up this, I didn't select "custom" and selected hi-res. Well anyway it started to burn, and then it appeared as if Easytherm froze ("not responding" was at the top of the window). I waited, and then the program quit and MS rebooted. I figured everything went well, but now it wont communicate with anything. I tried portcheck, megatune, tunerstudio. Nothing. Then I tried to reflash the 10G firmware, and I get this:

This should count up to 1700+ lines
.
src\download.exe -c3 msns-extra.s19
MS Download 1.10
Download failed:
Expected response "
Boot>",
but received this "".
Press any key to continue . . .

I tried removing the cover and installing a boot jumper, only to find that there is no pins for the jumper, just unused pads. So I shorted it with a screwdriver and gave it a go (I know I made a good connection because the fuel pump doesn't prime when I do this). Same thing. Oh WTF did I do?

Sounds like you've borked the firmware. First thing you need to do is install the boot jumper. A little bit of wire or a bent paperclip would work for this. With the power off, install the boot jumper, supply power to the ECU, and then give loading code a shot.

the message you quoted in the original post does seem to indicate screwed up firmware. i would follow Ben's suggestion and properly install a 'boot jumper' and keep it there while you reflash. it's not like a PC where you reset the bios by shorting the pins for a second.

Let's try using a solidly mounted paperclip or loop of wire, instead of holding a screwdriver across the pins.

I'll try it Saturday morning. I'm away from the car right now until then. Thanks for the help guys. I hope it turns out to not be such a big deal.

Ok, I'm back in business. I used a paperclip, and ran easytherm again and selected the proper firmware file. However this time I blew the dust off of my old XP laptop with a real serial port because for some reason it wasn't working with my Windows 7 with USB serial. That's probably what caused the problem to begin with.

The trick with Windows 7 is to get a cable that uses the "prolific" chipset, and then go to prolific's website and download the windows 7 drivers. I'm currently using a "trendnet" brand cable and it works fine with 7. A friend of mine got a cable from Best Buy which also works fine with the prolific drivers.
