Thanks. There's an MS3 Basic for sale used which I'm considering as well - apparently, new/never used, but ~2 years old. Is there a changelog thread on any revisions since then? (Will go check again - found the MS2E thread but not sure I recall seeing an MS3 Basic revision thread).

You should ask @Reverant directly. Ask the seller for the serial # and ask Rev what, if any, changes he's made since. The MS3 uses normal firmware. MS2E doesn't. Don't dwell on it, buy MS3 like others have told you.
Can't locate a revision thread, but Seems to be 4 years old or so based on a few other posted SNs.

What I'm trying to sort out is what I need in order to run multiple PLX (or other similar - haven't found many) gauges pulling both aftermarket and existing sensor data. I know I can display at least most of this in a tuner studio dashboard, but I'm not going to be generally driving around with a laptop, so was planning on replacing the water temp and oil pressure gauges with a pair of DM6 gauges if possible, if not - find somewhere else to get them to fit.
If that's what you are trying to do - you can buy some additional sensors that are compatible with the MS, and add them into the spare inputs. The PLX devices should in theory be able to access those sensor values via CANbus and show them to you. Or you could possibly do it the other way round - you buy the PLX devices with *their* senders (oil temp etc), and MS can pull the data from them into itself. It depends if you want/need that data in the MS logs or if it's just for information - wiring the sensors into MS is probably more complex than a plug and play solution from PLX.

There's a few options for CAN based gauges - there's some threads on here somewhere - search CANchecked and you should be able to find a thread or two to look at.

I spent quite a while searching for similar - there's a couple of options from a company called CANChecked, one from DIYAutotune, PLX I think, and probably a few others. Someone on here made something custom up with an Arduino and a display that's pretty cool.
I've currently got an old android phone on a magnetic mount next to the the instrument cluster, and a cheap bluetooth adaptor for the MS3. That will display all of the same stuff that Tunerstudio can, and also do datalogging if you need it to, or make minor adjustments to the map. Worked out pretty cheaply as I reused an old phone, and doesn't look out of place. If I have to leave the car anywhere it just gets snapped off the mag mount and tucked away.
