Is there a benefit to switching NA Crank angle sensor for NB Crank Position Sensor? I understand that currently the CAS controls timing signal in the NA. The NB system appears to be better suited for Megasquirt. However some posts indicate that the NA (96-97) trigger wheel

18 psi, please be more descriptive - please confirm

Let me try to clarify to make sure I understand your suggestion. Installing 99 motor into 97. Kept my 97 valve cover and used my 97 CAS and 97 Crank Angle sensor. Will be running MS3 soon and want to make sure I can plan ahead now before installing the motor and doing some re-wiring. I see that a Protege 36-1 trigger wheel is available from Mazdacomp and I can also get an NB Crank Position sensor and connector from Bellinger - I am unclear on the next steps. Do I jump the CAS power and ground and bring this to the pigtail of the new NB sensor ? The white signal wire on the CAS gets cut off and taken to the signal wire on the NB Crank Position sensor pigtail?.
This would give me a smoother idle and more stable timing ?? Thanks again!

Please clarify. I have a 99 motor going into 97. I kept CAS and 97 crank angle sensor and 97 valve cover. The shop that will be doing my tune said I need a 36-1 trigger wheel. I am really confused whether sourcing a trigger wheel and NB sensor is enough or do I need to remove CAS and run a 99 valve cover and CAM sensor from NB? Please can someone take me through this

If you are going to be running a crank sensor then you need the 99-00 valve cover and a cam position sensor. You can find out pretty easy on how to wire those into your NA CAS plug.

Is using a receptacle for the CAS connector a better way to go without cutting it off?
