Default Updated MS DIYPNP to 3.1.1 firmware...now no start!

MS2-based DIY PNP from DIY Autotune.

1992 w/ Innovate LC1 and AFM delete.

Tunerstudio (registered, fully updated).

So I finally got around to updating to MS Extra 3.1.1 in hopes of a better idle. Now the car won't start.

For the past year since I switched to MS the car actually would idle OK, but once warm it was 1100RPM or so, which isn't very cool. No change I made to ANY setting made ANY difference so I was actually sort of thinking maybe something was corrupted. Surely all these drop down menus are supposed to do something, right?

So anyway, I had heard of people getting a better idle with the newer firmware so I decided to update it. Since I've only done this once before, more than a year ago, I couldn't remember how I did it. After stumbling around DIY's site for 20 minutes I eventually found the instructions and did it. Note: when you want to find something on DIY's site, save yourself some time and use Google. The thing is like a Dan Brown book!

So anyway, my tune seems to have survived. That's my VE table, those are my (useless) idle settings, the Engine Constants are the same, etc. The problem is that the car just doesn't start. I crank and crank and get nothing.

I think the problem might be in the tach signal. I seemed to be getting no indication of tach activity while cranking so I messed around with some settings and now I see cranking, but its not very accurate. It seems to alternate between 180 and nothing as I crank. I'm pretty sure its spinning faster than 180, although I obviously don't know. Also, while I'm cranking every 2 seconds or so I can hear a relay click. This clicking seems to go along with the tach dropout. When it happens I also get a slight puff of combustion since, I assume, its de-powering the coil.

I don't actually smell gas but I see pulse width indicated in TS.

I would post a log, but I can't figure out how to generate one. There is a way to select where the file goes, but it doesn't put anything there.

So anyway, any ideas? The tune seems to have survived the firmware upgrade but...actually didn't? I wouldn't mind building a new tune from scratch, if that's what it takes, but I don't know what settings I would use other than the ones I currently have.

I'm never EVERY updating my firmware again, btw, not even if it doubled my horse power and tripled my MPG. It isn't worth the torture of falling into the "MegaHole", futilely looking for hours online trying get help to a MS issue.

If anyone has a known-opperational tune for a 1.6 running 3.1.1 and can just send that to me I would be very grateful. Tuning is a snap compared to starting.

I have a track day in a week and I REALLY want to get this thing running again.

Did you recalibrate the wideband? It resets itself to narrowband when you update the FW. I know because I always forget

You did reload your msq after updating the firmware right?

I'm pretty sure you selected "Megasquirt" and not "Microsquirt" in the selection menu, when you updated the firmware.

You are correct! I figured that out myself this morning. It still won't start, but the business with the relay is now gone. I had to go into work today so I'll hopefully be able to fix the other issues (probably caused by me messing around with options trying to start it last night) and get it running again.

Did you recalibrate all your sensors? I had to recalibrate my AIT and CLT sensors as well when switching to 3.1.1.

There were reports of a random no start condition with a 4g63 wheel setup in the thread but I don't think they found the issue yet. Mine seemed to be ok.

I've been driving the car for the past two days. Its running pretty rich, especially under WOT, and I haven't really had time to tune it much. It is running very well though!

The Wideband settings did indeed vanish. It took me a while just to figure out how to resend them. I haven't looked into CLT and IAT, but thanks for the heads up.
