Default USB = beautiful

Just added in the USB converter mod... love it. One less cable to think about or mess with... or forget. The cable is uses is generic for a ton of cameras... so if ever needed... much higher chance of finding one in a hurry.

Working well... only wierdness was it didn't want to work on COM16 where it ended up by default on my machine... but worked the instant it was on a lower COM... COM2 for me.

Yeah, on the laptop i use daily it's COM3, on my roommates it was COM4.
I like the USB adapter really, it is the "cleaner" option when using USB, though it is more trouble when installing.

What year is your car?
If you can get in on that boomslang group buy and get the ECU connectors, i'd suggest doing it because I didn't do it myself. Definitely not necessary but cutting up the stock harness sucks and makes a big mess. If i could do it again i would spend the $30 and get the connectors.

I've got an ECU plug from boomslang already. And the 18inch Harness that DIYautotune offers. I just need the schematics for a 93 and then figure out their harness... might have to unwrap it to figure out what wires really go to where on the plug.

You've seen these right? http://www.madracki.com/miata/wiring.html
I used the '99 schematic for mine and it was perfect. Just takes a little while to sort what what the wire colors are. Make up an excel document or something as you go through it all to keep track of what's what for each pinout.

You are a saint, I knew that page was out there but kept forgetting to look for it and its link.

Let the "fun" begin

The hardest part for me was identifying the wire colors... the wires had gotten so dirty over the years that most of them looked brown or black, even if they weren't. I didn't go the P&P harness route, I did cut the stock harness. It's not too bad really, you only have to cut 6 wires or so.

A PnP harness isn't really that bad, the only thing that really made mine a mess was the switch box and the fact that it all has to fit somehow under the driverside dash of my car. If the ECU was in the passenger floorboard or behind the passenger seat it would be 10x cleaner.

I intend to have mine up the firewall, fairly certain my car won't have a dashboard... so I'll have room for a nice mounting area.

Awesome. I'd like to have like a '94 that I could just strip and do stuff like that with. My '99 won't be race prepped by any means, fully capable/comfortable DD means must retain dash.

cjernigan,
I've been trying to sort out which wires are what on my '99, could you post which wire colors you used for what so that I can check mine?

Thanks.

It might have to wait, i'm not at home right now I'll be back sunday though.
I made up a spreadsheet with all the colors. I don't have that with me, if you can do the same for yours i'll take a look at correct anything that might be wrong.

Cool, I'd appreciate it. I'll run out to the garage and copy down my list.
