Spethial announcement from mit!!!!
To be fair though, depending on when MIT made this awesome 'breakthrough', their decision to announce it as if it were news in 2006 that you could inject alcohol to deter detonation is a bit dickish. There are articles talking about some people using alky injection back in the mid 90s.
90's is correct . . . 1890's.
Development in earnest in the 1930's with large-scale field use in the 1940's.
If you really want to learn about water-alcohol injection in piston engines, look to the research of Sir Harry Ricardo and NACA (predecessor of NASA). It worked so well that it was even applied to early jets.

I just sent this to my dad. If this is what constitutes university-level science at MIT.. damn.
Meanwhile, Berkeley is discovering the Bose-Einstein condensate and making new elements.
