To me they look like stock cam gears that were machined.
Don't believe everything anyone tells you(even in the tuning world).I think they lied to you(R.S Aizawa).

Seriously, you can get brand new HKS cam gears for a Miata for $147. Those old school ones are worth $50 at a maximum. On the other hand, those of us who are bitching about the price always have the option of not buying them.
