From your testing does a more square shaped intercooler (18x12") perform better than a rectangular one (27x5.5") or were there other considerations?

Square blocks airflow to the rad.

I think performance of all ebay IC's will end up being about the same. My biggest considerations for the IC was, what can I use and make fit over a 15 year span without having to make tons of changes between each version.

Not always true. It depends on placement of the IC more then anything else. My tester so far in Florida had issues with a rectangle one because it blocked far more of the mouth of the bumper then the square one. While the square one blocks more higher up parts of the radiator, it allows air to flow around the sides much more freely to get to the radiator.

Yeah I actually think the 18x12 is better for radiator cooling in that regard, like shuiend says I have a 28x7" and it pretty much is sealed to the mouth of my bumper opening all the way around. Any air going to the rad has to go through the IC first. I guess that's good for IC performance bad for everything else.

Thanks for the clarification, measurements and photos; I figured I'd ask since no-one had questioned it and it does look small compared to the more commonly used intercoolers.

- Pos-cat left for the post.

I used to run an 18x11 and ran 12's with it. Without proper ducting, and my air filter sucking hot air right behind the radiator, I think I had about a 50°F increase at the end of the 1/4 mile. My coolant temps would decrease a few degrees at the end of the 1/4 mile, plenty of air gets around the sides.

Firstly, nobody order the Medium T3 I posted above from that vendor. I received a turbo from them but the specs are way off:
Compressor Wheel diameter: 43.20 / 60.45mm
Turbine Wheel diameter: 45.5 / 62.00mm

Do those specs look familiar? They are the specs listed on the MKTurbo website for the standard T3.

I measured my standard MKTurbo T3 and got these specs:
Compressor Wheel diameter: 41.70 / 60mm
Turbine Wheel diameter: 45.74 / 63.5mm

I got 3 of the medium T3's in yesterday. I will see if I can pull one apart tonight to take a look and get some measurements.

I can confirm there's not much difference. I even re-used the housing with the wastegate to avoid porting again. That said it is still a nice little turbo. Butt dyno says it pulls good. Seems more alive once you start going above 14psi than the mkTurbo. I also like the intake housing design on this turbo. Looks like it can flow a little more and clocking it made my IC piping look cleaner. Still a lateral move more than an upgrade for sure.

Really wanting to try a CXR ball bearing turbo next but I don't know what to get...

Ok the turbo is good Installed it and it rips good. Getting 10+psi by 3500rpm just on a pre-loaded wg, haven't played with EBC yet. Pulls 20psi all the way to redline but I'm going dial it back to 17-18. Just a short test drive tonight and I didn't have my laptop in the car so no logs.

So I finally pulled apart a few of the medium t3 turbo's to get some measurements. The turbine wheels match the standard turbo's I use. The compressor wheel is slightly different. The measurement at the bottom larger section is the same as the standard turbo. The top part of compressor wheel is about 1mm larger then the standard turbo. Other then that the turbo's appear to be about the same.

Congratulations Lars!

I love my MKTURBO, I have well over 20k and more than 200 1/4 miles on my setup. My car runs 12's and traps 110 with the MKTURBO.
Thanks for making my car so quick!
