It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday Nigel, thanks for the beautiful set of injectors. A very good seller.

Just got mine in the mail today. Thanks Nigel! Really looking forward to running these via MS.

Thanks guys! It was great to meet you too, Carlos.

Updates:

1. Thanks to your feedback, I've found that by far the easiest way to get that black bit off is to use clippers sideways (think cutting along the tangent, rather than the radius). The plastic is brittle, so you can easily remove the outside all the way around this way, then the top just slides off.

2. I'm doing another batch (yay!). I can't seem to edit the first post or the second one I had reserved for later, but the price is going up slightly to $270 for a set of flow matched units with pnp kits, to cover a couple expenses I didn't account for. I'm also doing non-flow matched pnp kits for $235 if you so choose. Both options will come with the black plastic bit removed unless you request otherwise.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone!

Another batch of injectors have been flow testing, and I should get them back within a couple days. Still waiting on dead times :td:

aidandj 03-28-2015 12:48 AM

Whats the eta on dead times?

I should know Monday. I left a message with the shop to see what the status is last week, and I'll give them a shout again on Monday.

I'm having all the injectors flow tested by a more affordable shop, and I sent two two a more sophisticated shop for a full battery of testing including dead times. It's that second shop that I'm waiting for.

You all will know mere moments after the information is mine!

nigelt 03-30-2015 03:53 PM

Dead time update: the shop received the injectors, but now they can't find them. When they find them, they will test them, and then you all will have dead times!

aidandj 03-30-2015 04:32 PM

Thats annoying.

nigelt 03-31-2015 02:07 PM

From my main flow tester (not the one who can't find the injectors I sent him) who just finished up another batch:

These Bosch design 4 injectors are without a doubt some of the best I have ever flow tested. They are super precise even at really high flow rates ( where any flow rate differences would be magnified ).
This, from a guy who all he does all day long every day is clean and flow test injectors.

Noob Question here:

I have a 1996 1.8L Miata with an older FMII turbo kit. The current injectors are RC. Engineering 550cc. that I believe came with the kit. I am extremely frustrated that they just used audio butt crimp connections and spliced into the factory injector harness.

Question?
Will these new, latest & Greatest EV14 GT500 Injectors outperform, idle smoother an basically overall kick my older RC. 550cc injectors butt?

I've never replaced fuel injectors before,........im assuming a re-tune would be expected.
I cannot stand the way my current injectors are wired, I have to fix it to be PNP. connections

I'll let others chime in on how they perform, as I still haven't had time to set up my MS and install my injectors (this whole having a baby thing is really getting in the way of making my car faster!). From what I've heard, they idle great, and generally kick ass.

As for the PNP aspect, here is what they look like complete:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1427911223
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1427911223
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1427911223

The USCAR connector, which plugs into the injector, is really solid. I've heard from both people that have used these specific connectors, and those that bought theirs elsewhere, that the Denso connector that goes into the harness can be a bit loose. I'm going to experiment with a few different ways to tighten up that connection, either with tape, or a zip tie, or clip, something else.

I think it is really important for these to be PNP so you can easily revert to stock, or to different injectors later if you so choose. Whatever solution I find works the best for me, I'll send out to anyone who has previously bought these from me and wants it, for free.

After flow testing 55 injectors, here are the stats you need to know:

Mean static flow rate: 611cc
Standard deviation: 5.3cc (0.9%)
Mean flow rate, 6ms pulse 3000RPM: 164cc
Standard deviation: 2.3cc (1.4%)

Static flow rate histogram
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1428174553

What this all means is that if you buy 4 of these kick ass GT500 injectors (from anywhere, not just me), There is a 92% chance that all 4 will have static flow within 2% of the mean flow rate. That puts the likelihood of a whole set being within a 4% range even higher. Sweet. For dynamic flow, the OEM injectors will likely be within a 5% range.

The flow matched sets I put together were all able to fit within +/- 0.5% flow as tested.

As soon as I have dead times, I'll start a new thread in the engine performance section to keep all the data I was able to collect for posterity. Are there any other figures that I should calculate from the tested flow rates that would be helpful for people running these injectors?

nigelt 04-07-2015 03:46 PM

Hey Everyone - a quick note on the connector plugs. I've heard loud and clear that a couple of you have had issues with the Denso side of the connector plug. I've also heard this has been an issue for people who have bought plugs from other places. I've been talking with with the plug supplier about the issue, and they have a new version that has thicker pins which are more firmly in place.

Here is what I am going to do: I'm ordering new connectors with the better plugs, however it will take a couple weeks to get them. For anyone who has already bought these from me, you will have two options:
1. When I get the new plugs, I will send you a new set of plugs for free, and include a return shipping label for you to send me back the plugs I sent you originally.
2. If you would rather connect the USCAR plugs directly into your wiring harness by cutting off the denso plugs and wiring the pigtail in, I'll send you a $10 refund for the inconvenience the lacklustre Denso plug has caused. For our neighbors to the North, that's $20 CAD.

I'd like to give a big thank you to those who let me know about the issue. Okay, here I go... Thank you!

aidandj 04-07-2015 07:27 PM

All you fools should be connecting the USCAR plugs straight to your harness anyways, fewer failure points.

Nigelt, we don't care about that anymore :) We want deadtimes!! :)

Monk 04-07-2015 07:47 PM

Yep. Don't worry about mine, they're getting spliced in.

You got cash. Don't spend it all in one place!

For people who want the shiney new connectors, current ETA is 4 weeks, but I'm laying some serious pressure on for them to hurry the ef up.

nigelt 04-10-2015 02:08 PM

It appears the first injectors I sent in for dead times are lost forever. I'm sending more in right now, and they should be tested next week.
