Why MS2 and MS3 boards in it? Going to actually try to get it licensed by B&G? And for Joe Perez, are you going to release all the schematics that you have for it?

Reverant 06-29-2012 03:02 PM

More inputs and outputs of course. You can ditch the MS2 board if you don't want it and/or replace the MS3 for an MS2 for reduced cost.

hustler 06-29-2012 03:08 PM

In for my turbo car.

Dat electrical engineer.

richyvrlimited 06-29-2012 03:12 PM

Oh Nice job Reverant!

I guess the two ECU's talk to each other via CAN, with the 'aux' MS2 having completely custom firmware on it?

Also do you now have a RTC? (button battery).

richyvrlimited 06-29-2012 03:12 PM

Also what's the est pricing for a 2001+....

Reverant 06-29-2012 03:14 PM

Yes, the two boards will communicate with each other through CAN. There are also two additional coprocessors on the board, also with CAN, but these serve a different purpose.

There is an RTC on there, as well as TPIC, and an optional onboard wideband module (SLC OEM).

richyvrlimited 06-29-2012 03:20 PM

Holy crap!

doesn't really need saying, but i'll say it anyway. GREAT JOB!

Have a props :)

ianferrell 06-29-2012 03:24 PM

on board slc oem is win... I have one and really like it. Very curious to hear what all you've got working there. I'm guessing you have some manner of jumper setup to facilitate 90-00 stuff. Got a 01-05 version? I'm guessing no ms3x cause you just built everything on your board, I'm not familiar w/ all the licensing restrictions... I wouldn't have thought this 'legal', but it certainly looks like an awesome solution to so many v3.0 problems.

Thanks. I'm dying to write about all the hardware features, but I don't want to spill too many beans just yet. Suffice to say, jaws are going to drop.

EunosBen 06-29-2012 03:28 PM

Wow! Cannot wait to get my hands on one of these! You know this already though huh ;)

y8s 06-29-2012 03:28 PM

knock and real time clock and wtf is the blue board?

also curious about your licensing with B&G. they Bitchy and Grumpy when people sell interfaces to the MS3.

This board is for the 01-05 (including MSM) only. The rest of the gens will follow very soon.

The MS3x has no place here. It is a cool solution for quick and dirty DIY job along with a V3.0/V3.57 board, but that's it. Everything the MS3x has to offer (and many, many more) are on my board.

The blue board is an MS2 daughterboard.

Licensing will not be a problem, apart from cost of course.

The knock and RTC are not the same modules as the jsmcortina knock/RTC boards. I use my own approach.

Hint: One of the coprocessors is a full sequential crank/cam decoder with an angle clock.

ianferrell 06-29-2012 03:37 PM

Willing to divulge the price target?

EunosBen 06-29-2012 03:38 PM

Maybe to early for this but what kind of price point are you hoping to hit?

Also, do you intend to ship with all features for all models or simply a selected featureset per customer? I really regret not asking you for launch control as an example.

Also, any attempt at traction control using VSS? These guys have a neat solution but I don't know how replicatable/integratable it is to this setup? Racelogic - Traction Control

Thanks Ben. The 99-00 version isn't that far away at all, so I understand if you can't help yourself!

Oscar 06-29-2012 03:39 PM

So no longer for my eyes only I guess?

hustler 06-29-2012 03:40 PM

Can you walk down the street and get a Gyro?

Reverant 06-29-2012 03:41 PM

It is not firm as of yet. There are too many features that I still can't speak of, and once you know everything, the price will be a steal given the feature set. Definitely less than $1k.

Touché. Now get on it. I've got time to spare and cash to burn. But you know that already.

I'm trying to fit the word octo----- in a random sentence but I can't think of anything.

Oh look at that, I just did :giggle:

It is going to ship with all features on and enabled, except for the optional SLC OEM wideband module. So when people will want to sell the unit after many years of faithfull service, they won't have to explain that they only got this or that feature.

Traction control will be available as this ECU has 2 inputs for VSS. One from the stock gearbox sensor or from a driven wheel (jumper selectable) and one from an undriven wheel.

lava speed 05 06-29-2012 04:03 PM

And to think I just ordered your current model... Feel free to build me a newer one. ;-)

Reverant 06-29-2012 04:13 PM

I need to crunch the numbers. The price difference between the two units may be moderate to "significant".

hustler 06-29-2012 04:48 PM

Will this run Ice Cream Sandwich or Jellybean?

It is definitely not going in a el cheapo enclosure.

Given the feature list already, less than $1k sounds like an awesome mark to hit... Especially if you pay someone to put a ms3+ms3x v3.0 setup together with an adapter harness... there won't be much difference. I'm excited :)

Reverant 07-02-2012 10:01 AM

The feature set alone will put it on a league of its own. The price will be the cherry on top.

Braineack 07-02-2012 10:28 AM

and here i am proud of the pcb i made for the alt control circuit so I can build 99+ units easier.

Reverant 07-02-2012 10:30 AM

Speaking of PCBs, this one is a 4-layer PCB, 8.5"X6".

Braineack 07-02-2012 10:51 AM

well mines 2-layer and 2"x2" and mounts on the heatsink or where the spark drivers on the diypnp board would go. so what now homey?!

Reverant 07-02-2012 10:53 AM

Want to preorder one?

18psi 07-02-2012 11:06 AM

This calls for a BRO-DOWN

Zaphod 07-05-2012 11:05 AM

And to think that Dimitris told me to wait with my MS3 build...

Now I got an DIYPNP AND an DIYMS3X for sale.... Dammit!

As I said in the mail, Dimitris - a bloody piece of art!

1000RPM and 40mph. Do want.

Holy crap, you think that's enough gauges?:giggle:

Godless Commie 07-16-2012 09:26 AM

Dimitris, you know I will be at your doorstep come late August..

I may just pester you for one of those, if you are not still angry with me for messing with the advance table.

(Looks like August 17 or 18, still finalizing plans here)

When developing with the CAN bus, you need to be sure that when you are working on something, you don't break something else. Thus I need to monitor most of the CAN bus data most of the time.

18psi 07-16-2012 10:35 AM

So this will be can-bus usb connection or will we still be using the old school db9 serial with adapter to usb? (sorry if stupid question)

Reverant 07-16-2012 10:39 AM

For now, there will still be a serial port. CAN Bus is used internally, as my 2 additional processors share data with the main Megasquirt processor very efficiently.

The pics above are taken with an MS2 in the processor socket; notice how many inputs are there! This is possible due to CAN.

Sooo, where's my tracking number? ;)

Reverant 07-16-2012 12:42 PM

Good things come to those who wait.

18psi 07-16-2012 12:46 PM

Awaiting MS10X and telepathic autotune:D

Reverant 07-16-2012 12:52 PM

Telepathic autotune? Maybe not, however I am researching an option that will allow you to wirelessly connect to the ECU, up to 1 mile away.

The track guys might like it if their pit crew can remotely monitor and fine tune on the go.

JasonC SBB 07-16-2012 01:04 PM

Turning on just one fan isn't great when you have a shroud with a common air space between the 2 fans. How about a setup where 3 relays are controlled so a low setting puts the 2 fans in series? :)

Reverant 07-16-2012 01:25 PM

I have a twincooler w/shroud on my car, and I have no problems controlling the coolant temp with just one fan?

Besides, you recommendation, while valid, would require re-wiring, which some people would rather not do. For those who will want to do it, it will still be possible through generic I/O ports.
