Default Coolant Leaking From Intake Manifold?

I was filling up the Radiator today getting ready to fire her up....and well....Drip Drip Drip Drip DAM I!

I have no idea why It would be leaking from there, I tighten those bolts up! Is there a hose or something over there? I couldnt see one.....
Was I Suppose to put sealent over the gaskets?
What I dont get is, how the coolant got all the way there with no pressure. I didnt even start the car and it was leaking from there....
Any input will be great. Thanks Guys.

i bet your intake manifold gasket is flipped around the wrong way, you gotta take it off pai, sorry. I did the same thing my first time and could not figure it out for the life of me but it is so painfully obvious when it is off

check the rear thermo sensor etc as well. is the car jacked up in the front? also if the manifold gasket is the least bit fubard get another one to make sure it will seal right. I tried to use rtv on my old gasket and hd bad time's :( long story short new gasket is the best way to go

Its all good Ryan. I started it fo rlike half a second and started right up! I had a SUPER exhaust leak for that half second haha. the bracket by the exhasut manidold was caught under the manifold haha, so i just have to loosen the bolts and pull it out. but hay, started right up, kept an idle. so i have to search the coolant issue, and do the exhaust manifold, and should be good to go hopefully!
Ok, so no Rtv it is lol
Ill see If I can locate a local gasket nearby for my car and get a new one.
And yes it is jacked up. I wonder if thats how the coolant was able to get there H m...

if its as bad as drip drip drip, you most likely put it in backwards. I'd definetly figure it out, not only will it leak, but it will block coolant from getting to the head. you can do it without removing anything, just take the nuts off with a rachet and 6" extension, move the manifold back enough to get the gasket off, flip it, and put it back on. I had to do the same thing when I put my engine back in.

Hey Pai, Another thing I did not thing of is that it could be the thermosensor for the dashboard gauge as I dont remember weather or not there was one in place or not. You could verify that it is installed by reaching your hand around the back of the head from the passenger side, just under the CAS. With a little bit of searching, if all is well there should be a little sensor with a slide on plug sticking out towards the pass side of the car. However if it is the Intake manifold gasket being flipped, the coolant will pretty much pour out just underneith the intake runner that is 3rd back in the bay.

Ok, So I stuck My Hand Behind There and noticed that a sensor (if it is a sensor?) isnt hooked up. Its the thing right under the cas, it has like a female end. And I looked on the harnesses and didnt find anything that would look like would fit. What harness is that on, anyone know?
And Can I mess up my powersteering if I leave my belt off?
Oh. and curly, It pretty much drained the radiator almost. Well, It was full, now i cant even see the level, thats how low it is.

Hm.....I cant find what goes there....Ill look around more.
And a quick update, Taking off then on the intake manifold was really not as hard as I though. I guess it would be super tough if you have big hands...It was alot easier for me because I had that extra head laying around so I was able to see where the nuts and bolts were. I just cant get this last nut on and after that ill look for that thermosensor plug. Whats that do anyhow?

Well, a quick update.
Of coarse you know its gonna be bad : /
Started it up and had SUPER Hla noise. And I let it set for about wtetny minutes and didnt go away.
Compression readings were about 155-160 all the way across.
the car is not only having the hla noise, but detonated at 3900krpm so i retarded the timing a little, i still have to make a mark the TDC.
My questions are,
What could the LOUD Hla noise be from? (lifter noise)
How can I set my timing if I dont have my lower cover on, if I can at all....
Thanks Guys.

"The problem with the hlas is the get clogged and won't pump up. I haven't taken them apart, you can disassemble the larger Mazda hlas and clean them. Don't know if it applies to the Miata's hlas. Problem is, it's a lot of work- worth the price of new ones is what you have to decide. If they're not pumping up, you are losing valve lift and that means losing power. Cleaning HLAs"
:v ash:
I wonder if that has anything to do with me. But the thing with my situation is that, their REALLY loud. And they were not like that when the head was on my other motor. I have a bottle of seafoam in my garage, do you tink that would maybe fix the problem of the super power loss, detonation, and loud hlas?
