Mine started slipping as soon as I went over 220 lol
Wasn't even fried, looks almost new. Just couldn't hold down the torque.

That's exactly what I got from this forum. I think I'll get a kit basically just for the turbo, IC, maybe piping depending on quality when I get it if it's crap I'll bend my own. Then build my Megasquirt, and save for a good aluminum manifold (we've covered how stainless is crap in this forum, but what about cast iron?).

Also, I understand why the manifold is extremely important cause of the extremely high pressure and heat, not to mention the fact that it's load bearing and the vibration fatigues the material over time, but why is the downpipe important? seems to me that the reduced pressure and lower heat post-turbo, kind of put it more in the exhaust category as something I can skim a little on.

im looking at only producing 140-160 whp in order to stay withing my time attack group and not be bumped up into the next class.

I was thinking of just getting a cast manifold off of ebay for my internally waste-gated t25 turbo. Thoughts on the cast ebay manifold and what down pipe to run with it?

Im not looking for huge numbers but just something to put me in the top of my TA class

Techsalvager 04-12-2011 07:01 PM

the 1.6l cast ebay manifold is for a T3 flanged turbo

sixshooter 04-13-2011 01:48 PM

Stainless is very good and is not crap, but cheap stainless manifolds are built out of pipe that is too thin in the wall thickness and they crack and come apart. Iron varies but is typically ok for lower hp goals. It can crack as well if it is built poorly or is pushed beyond its design specifications.

I'd be tempted to suggest trying to find a basic greddy kit. Right out of the box they put out about 146hp. Cut the relieve cuts in the cast manifold, add an intercooler, and you got a quick spooling solid setup. Assuming you have a 1.6 btw.

^this!

or buy that kit from the FS thread with the stock subaru turbo...

So, havent seen this "good" ebay package yet. This looks like it could work, V-band and everything.

poobs 10-23-2011 04:10 PM

That's a much better looking kit than others I've seen.
I don't get the two fuel pressure regulators in the kit ???

A T3/T4 chinacharger on a 1.6 will almost certainly suck. If I was going totally cheap on a 1.6, I'd just get that manifold for $99 and find a used OE T25 turbo with a T3 flange.

Good point.

It's a pseudo-random collection of parts which doesn't even include a downpipe. Why should the number of fuel pressure regulators make sense?

Admittedly, it looks considerably less random than some, but I still wouldn't expect Bell or FM quality.

LMAO !!! You are right. I missed that and are those two gages that come with the kit ( ? ).

I just bought a 90 with a t3/t4 and it sucks lol does not spool till 3 and boost isn't built until almost 3.5k.. I removed all the heat wrap that's on the brake reservoir and he melted it previously the turbo sits about 5mm from the FL brake LIne its kind of a nightmare..

sixshooter 01-06-2012 02:54 PM

3500 rpm isn't bad spool at all.

nickwild7 01-06-2012 09:52 PM

A friend of mine runs his 92 with an 05 msm kit on it and it spoils almost instantly and never loses boost which is what I was wanting with this

You're comparing a turbo which is probably capable of a few ponies, to one which is anemic and choked. You want power or spool?

If you seriously have an issue with 3k spool up maybe a turbo charged car isn't for you...

well thats just it mine does not feel nearly as quick or responsive as his.
i love the turbo but maybe i just need to do some more tuning with it?

Nick... go to the Meet&Greet forum and start an actual "HI, new guy here" thread. Introduce yourself and tell us what's up.

Then start a new thread in this forum... titled:
"Bought a new Miata, help me sort it out"

In this thread, you tell us every single little detail about the car... and I mean everything.

And... YOU POST PICS!

This forum can help... we'll bend over backwards to help. There might be very little wrong with your car, or maybe you're completely screwed, but we'll do our best if you give us all the info you can.

Don't forget PICS!
