Hello, turbo.net noob here.

Searched the forums but could not find a reference.

I had an MP62 setup on my 97M. Deinstalled that, took off the A/C, and am now having a reputable shop experienced with S/C and turbos install the FMII.

I am just wondering, for people who installed their own/had it installed, how many hours did it take from beginning to end to install the FMII?

This is on a 97M with A/C already removed, GT2560 with stock Hydra setup.

I'd assume it will be easier and faster than your MP62 install.

I wouldn't ever consider having a shop install it.

 

My garage in Queens is just way too small for the install. The MP62 was installed in a huge garage with great lighting and a lift. I don't even have room to lay out tools and parts. Welcome to NYC.

A lot of the MP62 install was just getting/cutting/cajoling frozen bolts off of the car to get the new stuff on.

But still, hours?

 

I could install it and we'd be out road tuning it in a matter of hours.
I'd say, if it takes you more than a Saturday, there is something wrong.

 

Before I did my FMII install, the most significant experience I had was replacing the water pump. The FMII install took a full weekend for me which included a head swap, exhaust, clutch job, hydra install, and radiator. I did it pretty much solo.

 

I've swapped engines in a single car garage with a tire trailer, two spare engines, two spare transmissions, I spare tires, a lift, and a sex swing. You can do it, lol.

As far as your question goes, I never done it before, but did quite bit of research and reading up on the topic. Like it was mentioned before, a day should be sufficient for a skilled guy and a set of tools. Also depends on how the oil pan drilling goes and cutting up of the plastic rock guard. Everything else seems bolts off, bolts on..

I would have to take my sex swing down to do the install, and that is not going to happen.

BTW, my car lost the plastic rock guard awhile back...so I don't have to cut it up for the FMII. But...is that bad? Do I want to source another one for some protection underneath?

 

you may very well have overheating issues without the "rock guard"

 

My voodoo with megasquirt and not having done anything like this before took me about a week or 2 of on and off working. Plus I was doing other things in the mix. I could knock it out on a day if not a weekend now.

Never would I think of having a shop do it. I only have basic tools as well.

 

The longest part for any kit install was taking the stock seized bolts off.
If you know everything will come off easy i can't see it taking more then a weekend.

 

I'm sure that mattered 3-months ago.
