HELP: Settings/tip needed for FM2 CARB 99 Turbo kit Link Piggyback and install
#21
My brother HIGHLY recommends running E85 as the station is about 1mile from my house. He is currently running that on the his car and has a lot of experience tuning DIY, Link, and other ECU. I might go that route eventually.
Agree w/ Henk. From what I heard I have no doubt that stock block engine can run 12+ psi under the right conditions, the only problem that it is pushing the boundary of safety and at some point something will not be right and then BOOM..

Run whatever boost you like, but the limits of the stock block don't correlate strongly with the manifold pressure. Avoid overrevving, pinging, and running lean, and it should be fine up to at least 220-230 for rear wheel torque. Bad gas will hurt you at 9psi just as much as it will at 12. As for bent rods -- FM took apart an unmodified car with like 2000 miles on it and found a bent rod, so bad quality control can strike anywhere.

Ordered a new turbo from Garrett - GT2560R. Going to do install as soon aas the turbo is here, the other choice now is stick with Link or standalone. Awaiting a couple of response on Adaptronic or Megasquirt II. I got my hands on some 460cc injectors. Any other recommendation?
(no personal knowledge on this -- I've only ever bought one Garrett, and it came from FM).

I didn't place the order. My brother who is sponsored by ATP placed it. Whatever it is he'll make it work, so not too worry about it. I got responses for both the Megasquirt II and Adaptronic so will look into a parallel installation w/ the stock ecu. I got a test only smog for one of my car and worry that I will get another test only for the miata. Might have to do the Link for a bit then switch to the stand alone after the check.

It's been a while but my kit is fully installed. Had to made a couple of modifications and replaced a few parts but everything is hooked up now. I had some issue with the car running rough after it warmed up -- was using the setting that Ian had when it was on his car -- and resetting the Link to the factory turbo setting seems to have helped smooth things up a bit. I'm running into a strange issue were when the car goes into boost it is not making any power. There's no leak from what I can see and the car runs fine. I'm suspecting it is has something to do with fuel or timing since the car does run and starts up normally OFF boost.
Do I need to make any changes to the Link ECU to set size of injectors (unknown brand/capacity -- believe to be 330cc high impedance ford??)to make them work? I might have to just pickup a new set to make sure if I can't figure it out soon.
Thank again
