Some of you may know I’ve been working on a Greddy intercooler kit for a few months. This kit is VERY close to being released as a product. It’s been installed on two local Greddy miatas and will be road tested this weekend. This kit features an 18x12x3 bar and plate intercooler, Tig welded pipes, around the radiator piping, AC & PS friendly, reinforced silicone couplers and T-bolt clamps. These kits will be built to order and I expect a turn around time of a week.

Although I don’t have the numbers to prove it yet, this system should be very efficient and be able to handle any horsepower that the Greddy kit can throw at it. In the next couple weeks this kit will hit the Dyno and I’ll be able to compare performance gains over a popular Starion kit.

I’m currently working out a deal with a local powercoating company. For now, the first couple batches will be painted hi-temp black. Powercoating will be an option in the future once I start moving enough inventory to keep costs down.

The majority of the work is done. I’m still tying up a few loose ends such as instructions and a website. I do have three intercoolers ready to go if people want to jump on the first set of kits. These kits will be priced at $550.00 plus shipping and handling. Bead rolling will be offered for 30 dollars extra.

Special thanks to Brgracer and Mach929 for lending me their cars for an extended period of time. The attached pictures are from Mach929’s ride which has power steering and AC. Note the pipes will be delivered painted. Hopefully they will be able to test out these kits this week.

This was done by a Bead Roller. I outsource this option to a local fabrication shop for now.

I commend you for undertaking this venture. I think it's awesome. The routing looks good. The TIG welds have a nice small haz. Powerdercoated will be the finishing touch. Thanks for stepping up to the plate.

Do you think bead rolling should be an option though? Or better yet, why is the bead an option?

I know the rollers are a little pricey..

Thanks I am actually working on my website as we speak. I know it was a premature posting this info since I'm missing contact information, advertising and instructions, but I could not wait any longer to get the word out If anyone needs to contact me, you can send me a PM through this site. I should have my website and email setup by the end of the day.

I briefly looked into the equipment for laying a nice bead on the end of the pipes. It would be worth it to buy this equipment if these kits take off, but for now it's less of a risk outsourcing this option. There may be a cheap trick, but I have not found it yet.

Thanks I really enjoyed fabbing my own kit and I wanted to continue this hobby to see what it turns into. I also want to mention I have a 9-5 job so please be patient if I don't return email until the evening hours.

I do agree powdercoating is the way to go. I need to powdercoat several kits at a time to keep costs down. I'm waiting to see if there is a market for this kit before I explore this option.


My Tig welding is done by a local professional who owns his own performance shop. He does excellent work and worth the investment.

I think beading the ends is a great option to have especially if you are going to be road racing or autocrossing. I just want to give potential buyers another price option since I'm including t-bolt clamps which provide excellent holding power. Beading the ends may become standard depending how the kit sells.

It works. I've got an I/C kit that employs that very method. No blowoff with the t-bolts. As long as it's ground smooth you're good.

The thicker steel I/C pipes require a bit more to bead than aluminum.

On the cheapness...I've JB'd a bead or two shhhh.

Naw, I just meant that personally I think all I/C pipes should be beaded.

I don't want to seem "critical" but putting together a nice FMIC kit (like this one) and not using beaded pipes would come back to getcha sooner or later. (the customer I mean)

Those with the great experience of the pipe blowing off know that it happens only when, but not limited to: You're at mid-track, on a date, in the rain, when its 110 degrees, 500 miles from home, and lastly when you have no tools. When it never happens: In your air-conditioned garage.

This wouldn't be your fault of course, but I can see somebody that "wants to save 30 bucks" not feeling great about their purchase. To fault, they would likely look to the kit, instead of their own decisions.

Lastly, i'm no way quallified to offer advice on your business, just trying to throw in some perspective. Hopefully it's helpful.

No, this is very helpful and you bring a valid point. I am leaning towards setting the price at $580.00 and having beaded ends as a standard option.

but this looks way better than JimBs. I love to snag just the driver side piping, I really want to redo mine.
