People hardly make it 500 miles without the ebay manifold cracking and breaking. Here is proof.

You keep talking about a "good tune". To me a good tune is dropping $750-$2500 on engine management and then another $400-$1000 on dyno time.

What engine management are you using?

Also what motor do you have? A stock motor will probably not hold 300whp for to long reliably.

Savington at TSE says for a reliable 300hp expect to spend 10k on the motor and turbo setup.

I have a rebuilt 1.8 motor with carillo rods, wiseco pistons, and acl rod bearings. It's not much but it should be able to push 400 but I only want 300whp. I'm still undecided about engine management but when I come across that road I'm debating on spending 600 on ms or 1000 on aem either way I want it to be stand alone! I was gonna bring the car to a guy out in philly to do a complete fine tune for $600 but this is all eventually after I find a decent turbo kit. I will stay away from the eBay kits though thanks for the warning!

What is your time frame to have the car boosted? If it doesnt have to be right away you can just save up and piece together a real nice setup. You can have a nice manifold and downpipe made where you wont have to worry about cracking.

I had Abe at ARTech do my hot side and I love it, just starring at it makes me happy. TurboTim also does really nice work. I know there are a few others that will make you what you want as well.

And there have been quite a few part outs lately, just keep your eyes open in the for sale section and you can end up with a really good used kit for a good price. Then you just work on engine management.

Lars, stop with the misinformation...we all know tacotaconothitblocks are perfectly good for 300rwhp.

Or a 150shot from a bottle. It really is the best bang for the buck mod.

It's ok I already made a deal with someone its not what I wanted but its good enough to start out with. It's a used kit with EVERYTHING I need to get it running including cast iron mani, injectors and fuel pump and fmu for $1800. It's a small setup I may not make 300whp but ill be close so I appreciate everyones input even the jokes helped out lol! I'll be boosted soon enough!

Ok, so what turbo, what manifold, what downpipe. What size injectors? What engine management?

Give us some details so we (ok, THEY) can make sure you don't have anything that will pop your motor.

Pending the above details, good job on going used and lowering your expectations.

I got a ride in a 260hp Turbo Miata a week ago and it was absolutely stupid. I am buying most of rider384's setup this weekend and my megasquirt arrived yesterday, so I imagine in a couple months I will be turbo as well. Take your time, learn to tune your engine management. Make sure you aren't running any band-aids.

Go to an autocross event put on by a local Miata club. Get a ride with a few guys there that have turbo or supercharged miatas. You will have a new perspective.

If it is a custom made manifold then it is not cast. You need to slow down and research more. You spent god knows how much on a built motor, so why are you so cheap with the turbo parts. I personally have your whole budget in just my manifold and downpipe alone and am not at 300hp yet.

Basically, you need to stop being cheap and do more research and buy quality parts.
