Hi Yall
My Name is Wally,
I Just Bought me a brand spanking new 2014 Mx5(first new car in 8 years ) and Im thinking of boosting it.
Thought Id Post here since this is the "Turbo" forum afterall, any expert advise would be much appreciated fellas.
So my budget is pretty much 8k,
Im thinking that's a good start for a turbo kit and a mild suspension upgrade.(maybe konis and FM spring) read good stuff about this combo

Ive also read good reviews of The Special Force Kit that TDR has on their website. Did some reading on Miata.net as well, all seems positive.

So any advice before I pull the trigger?
Any short comings that are not apparent to amateurs on this kit?

Btw Id do lots of track driving, So reliability is a must.

And please no supercharger advise, I want a turbo. Period

Thanks in advance Folks

Why would anyone buy a turbo kit from Tuning Done Rong?

What do you mean?
Its a legitimate question... If I said something wrong, Id like to be corrected. That's how we learn.
Im looking for factual advice that will lead to either yay or nay.
And a more welcoming tone from an "Enthusiasts" forum.

If this is the wrong forum for advice, Ill go else where

You didn't make an intro post in the newb section and you made a completely irrelevant request for advice in a thread about specific events. You should probably start with an intro post and then either ask your question within that thread or create a build thread of your own and solicit advice there. You would probably get much better advice or direction.

Posting this in the meet and greet section of the forum would probably be a better place to get more potentially helpful advice, as this thread is a year old and the original poster has been banned.

My Apologies Ryan G.
I was eager for quick advice and skipped on the ceremonial intro steps.
As to start my Own thread, Im still trying to figure this thing out. Never posted on a forum before, Ive always just been a reader.

as for the friendly rating of this forum, Cant say its quiet High.
Wouldn't want to make a mistake in a post, could attract the vultures.

Wally,

Please don't bother wasting keystrokes telling us how unfriendly we are. Just start reading. Believe me: you're not the first to tell us we are harsh, and you won't be the first to change the way things are. Stay awhile and you might find you like it.

You are possibly unfamiliar with what is the expected norm in this situation and are being politely directed in the proper avenue for proceeding.

Meet and Greet - Miata Turbo Forum - Turbo Kitten is watching you test compression.

As far as your question. Its been asked a million times which is why these folks don't like repeating information.

As a small guide to a newbie, go in each section and read the stickies.

I'll get you started.

Its the same guy who had the red NC go up in flames

this is what he said about it:

Did initial damage to # 4 piston inadvertently running at 19-20 PSI. #4 cylinder compression low at 95 PSI vice 195. Ordered new engine and thought I could baby it until the swap. pushed it a little too hard and the engine grenaded on Fentress Airfield road. Lucky this time the car did not catch fire like the previous one. I suspect that the turbine blades are trashed. Reverted back to stock configuration until turbo is rebuilt or replaced.
The question is when am I going to stop exceeding the power rating of the stock engine internals??? Nothing wrong with the tune. Stock NC internals should not be subject to over 16 PSI. Crack in rubber nipple from manifold to boost gage caused false low reading. Thought I was running safe at 14 PSI, After repair of gage line Boost was approaching 20. Also there are no locals that can tune the NC PCM. Standalone is not an option. The next thing I will throw money at is a built engine, but that will have to wait awhile for $$. I'm broke
And his reason for not running a standalone:
And of course know that the power windows require PCM interface with the PRHT ECM to operate. Standalone means loss of retractable hardtop and electric windows. Just one of dozens of PCM interfaces of a modern car that you loose with standalone.
