More TTE records being reset in the South-East. CMP's previous record was held by an e30, so yay miatas?

Note, James is also very fast in his own car

I was just curious if someone had already documented it for a miata.

Not that I know of. There isn't much to "document". You do an OEM rebuild plus all the stuff that is allowed as zero points mods in the rules. I'm guessing you are either looking for "secret sauce" of which there isn't any.
Or perhaps you haven't yet familiarized yourself with the PT rules regarding engines, in which case, you have missed a step. Do that first.

This might also help: https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-pe...g-ideas-83443/

Not sure why you'd want to do this when 2018 is the last year of PT and TT letter classes.

Got bored and decided to revise my intake to get proper length and eliminate the 90 degree silicon coupler in favor of a mandrel bent pipe. Also picked up a filter with a splash shield and ducted air straight to it, similar to the K&N apollo, but I'm wondering, does the length still count as the filter or is it now the end of said ducting since it's all sealed up? It accomplishes my goal of nearly ambient air at speed, but if its effective length is the end of the ducting kinda defeats the purpose...I should have just gone 3d printed by now.

Will be picking up an AFPR next month and tuning for e85, the quest for 136whp continues. NA8 problems.

EDIT: Just saw Arca's build thread. Looks like we make nearly identical power on pump, granted I'm on 93 vs 91, so e85 should come out similar or maybe slightly less. Ah hell, 133 would be close enough, anything to close the gap on my main competition who now has what i think is one of the ole cheater SM heads and is making 141whp on stock ECU :/

Case and point

133WHP is as high as I'd go if using the 136WHP one star reclass anyways. If you turn in a sheet that is right up against the limit you're rolling the dice hard on whether or not someone feels like protesting.

Normally I would roll those dice, because we don't have dynos and I won't run underweight regardless, but Nats is in my backyard so a buffer is probably a good idea. There's also no one that will protest in my region, we're all friends in the core TTE group and know each others builds. Last year we had a guy clearly running TTD amounts of points, not maliciously just ignorant of the rules, but instead of protesting we just worked with the TT director to get him legal.

If you keep reading my thread through the NASA fallout you'll see why you'll need to find a way to cut out like another 5 to 10 WHP for nationals. Basically switch back to pump gas is the easiest way.

Another TTE record reset by a miata, this one is at Road Atlanta. Previous record 1:43.1xx held by an Integra, set in 2012.

New record, 1:42.4xx !

Driver - James Cathers
Ambient Temp - 60* w/ overcast, unknown track temp
Car - 99 points-build
Weight - 2415lbs
Power - 137rwhp/125tq

My alien driver friend, James, did this of course I never put together a decent session because of this.......

I've never heard of this happening, so I sent Dan a msg when I first saw it. Apparently it's semi-common on SM7'd SM cars or cars that see lots of r-comp load, like T25 cars? I'm not 100% on when this failure started, but you'll notice in the video above James is having to compensate for some pull and darting under brakes. I do know the car felt fine session 1 in warmup and I was VERY surprised to run a low 1:45, James did two sessions, then I did the 4th session and it was super sketch. Honestly sub-frame cracks aren't something I check for, but I guess it's going on the list haha.

Anyways, I'll be putting together a letter to make front sub-frame reinforcement legal for OEM miatas in ST4/5 and PTE/F. It's allowed in SM in SCCA & NASA, it's only like $17.70 for the part, and I don't see any performance advantage behind it. I also could really use this community's help in getting it passed as well

LOL at going under the SM record with no cage.

That is flying. Congrats to you and James!

Braking into 10a didn't look sketchy at all...

Grats on the record!

Thx fellas! I was guna hop out in the golden session Sunday morning, but I about blew chunks as I was getting ready for it after riding with my student Told James to hop in and go run 41s, this was before I found out the sub-frame issue. Unfortunately he ran into traffic and didn't get any clean laps and complained about the alignment being "kinda" off.

My normal competition, Rensel, ran a 1:43.0xx that session. I'm pretty confident I can hit 1:42s in similar weather, which puts James at mid 1:41s. I imagine more time is to be had with a better alignment and a functioning torsen.

6.2.2.1h in the 2018 ST4 rules: "1h) Reinforcement of suspension mounting locations on OEM frame rails, Sub-frames/suspension cross-members, and unibody is permitted provided there is no performance benefit or relocation of the mounting points."

Nice! I see it in the ST5 rules as well. I just hope it is carried down to PTE then.

It won't be. BMWs have WAY more subframe problems than miatas, and they fought for years to get reinforcements allowed in PT. No way NASA is going to allow reinforcements on miatas just for the last year of PTE. Greg's response will be "take the points for chassis stiffening, or move to ST5."

A little weight loss and/or full power map, and R7's? Being able to build a car that can double dip ST5/TT5 and a potentially expanding SuperMiata series would definitely have me re-thinking going to SM, which is huge in Texas. Hopefully ST5 has healthy fields, PT is a dead class out here.

EDIT: Triple dip I guess, because also good for WRL.

Pull ballast, load high power tune if you have one.
225 RC1s fit under 2400lbs, most S2s have ballast to get up to 2300 as is. R7s would be optional.
S2 Aero is free.

It wouldn't be optimal, but it fits with minimal changes.
ST5 Base: 14.0
A-arms +.7
Under 2450, +.4
ELBJ +.5
15.6 Supermiata S2
2250lbs at 15.6:1 is 144 average. Most junkyard engined S2s can make that as is.

The ones at HF work. Been there, done that.
Replaced the humps with 1/4" plate up top (and underneath) and a PCI V2 mount for moar low in the car.
Worked well. Would do again.

Can everybody do me a solid and respond to this thread expressing your concern and general agreement?
