Default Azenis RT615, Toyo R888, Hankoook RS3

Hey guys,

Just got my order of RS3's in the mail today. I stacked them up in the basement, and was disappointed to see how close these 225's were compared to 205 width R888's. However, they are noticeably wider than some RT-615's. I have another set of RA1's in the garage... might be interesting to compare.

You should see the 205 Hoosier. It may be wider then those Hankooks...

Tires seem to be all over the place, which is consistent to what I've heard from others. My Toyos were fairly consistent, but go to another brand and they're generally way off. I have no idea where tire manufacturers get their width numbers from. Thin air I believe.

I wonder if the different carcasses act differently under load, resulting in the widths being closer in actual practice. My guess is no, but its worth considering.

I think the real discrepancy is in how its measured. Some seem to measure from the edge of the tread blocks, others measure from the point where the tire would actually touch the ground.

out of the 2 spent sets of tires.... 615's and r888... which did you prefer? which had better grip and which lasted longer... rating out of 10 or something to quantify tire life vs grip would be nice...

thanks.

Roughly...

but r888s are race tires, 615s are street tires and the RS-3s are a different size altogether.

Yeah, like tee-shirts. A large tee-shirt may be the same size as an XL tee-shirt from a different manufacturer.

Yes, 615's are mounted on 6" wide wheels, so it's not an entirely fair comparison.

615's are 205/50R15. "Same" size as R888.

Here is another 205/50 comparison, Advan AD08 vs R888.

I did something like this last year. I will do one this year also:

Left to Right:

Bridgestone RE01R 195/50/15 on 15x7 -> Toyo R1R 225/45/15 on 15x7.5 -> Falken Azenis 615 on 15x7

This year I'm running 205 XS's and 205 R1R's for rain tires. I'm thinking about the RS3's in 225 also....we shall see how the other tires do first.

I really like the R888 in 225/45R15 on our Turbo cars and we found it the faster tire on the Nürburgring.
