Damn....
That should pretty much be an instructional "Don't do this!" video for a drivers class.\

I'm still baffled by the "I should be in advanced group" mentality. I guess I just have a healthy respect for what is going on. Hell I've been moved to the one up from total noob just because I was ok with that is how the numbers work. Fewer passing zones but if you do it right, you don't need them.

That was scary. He, and you, were lucky there was no contact.
I'd bet Apex tightens up on the check rides next event.
It can't be easy to judge experience/skill from a piece of paper.

Do you think he embellished his experience or it was a very long time ago?

You should now refer him as Sir Stirling Moss from now on.

Don't know. I never saw what he sent to Apex. I do know that he never went out again solo and sat out at least one session. Keith Verges asked me questions about him several times during the day. His last ride of the day was with Keith and I think it was so they could have a "Come to Jesus" discussion. Believe or not, at the start of the day he was asking Keith to sign off on his provisional. I thought all the activity was strange until I saw this video. Now it clicks.

The guy talks huge. Every time a track is shown on TV, he's raced there. Claims to have been a tire tester for Toyo. Talks about going to Pro Solo Nationals. Etc., etc., etc. Based upon what I know now, it looks like there was a lot of fabrication.

People are crazy. Sounds like you found one to me. Not sure how else to explain this.

I just want to say thank you for making me feel better about my crappy driving skills. My only real track W2W experience is in LeMons and I have gone agricultural on 3 separate occasions. But I am usually very good at being predictable and maintain speed while also leaving lots of passing room. With one exception I have not put anyone in danger. I did almost get myself door punched by a Golf, felt bad about that. Probably scared the crap out of him.

I cringe a bit on your friends behalf. I honestly think he was surprised at having to let people by and just did not know how to go about that. The first good example is where he is down to like 16 MPH on the apex, lets 3 cars by, then suddenly goes to the outside even though he would be fine just flooring up the inside at that speed. Once you loose mental rhythm as a novice, its hard to get back into driving consistently. That's where just knowing how to take a line that's racing but also leaves the fastest line to people who are blowing by you is priceless.

I know someone like that. No matter how much embarrassment he gets from being called out, he always manages to somehow shrug it off and keeps up with the same obnoxious behavior.

I would still never let up calling him Sir Stirling, and be sure to remind everyone in the paddock why he received such an honorable nickname.

I hang around at a karting place and I see some of the new clients behaviour in your friend's haha.
I like how when the first mustang or rx7 (don't remember, dont care) passes him and he jerks the wheel hard to the right like he got caught by surprise. He wasn't even paying attention to his surroundings. It was just him being the fastest and bestest driver the world has ever seen. aahh good times, good times. Thanks for sharing. I feel better about my **** driving now

Cringed quite a few times at that video. Interesting to see how out of touch with reality some people are.

That was scary! Seems like the red mist took over. I have some autox experience but none on the track and if I ever do try a track event I will definitely be getting all the instruction I can. I can only imagine how the other drivers felt.

Your friend might be a compulsive liar.

The red Viper driver that ignored no less than 9 blue flags for me then waved me by in the only two turns we weren't supposed to pass in. At least he was nice enough to point me by on the drag strip. Too bad he didn't lift.

How do these guys get into advanced? **** SA and.. who needs drivers meetings anyway?

That was both hilarious and scary. Would pitch in $5 to buy him a 'I drive flatout' shirt.

That was one of the idiots I spoke of. The other was the silver GT3.

Silver GT3 guy turned out to be a pretty cool dude in person just like the Viper guy, just bad judgement. Passing where he was not allowed to, not lifting, not pointing by.

Anyway to the OP video: My head exploded about halfway through it.

Ignoring Blue flags is one thing.

Ignoring Black flags is on a whole different level. What my friend did was flat-out dangerous (do they make that T-shirt?). Endangered everyone on that track.

I've gone through a bunch of stages on this thing . . . surprise, disappointment, anger . . . . I've finally arrived at resignation/acceptance -- but he's never touching one of my cars again and I'm not inviting him to any more track events unless he's willing to start at novice level with a ready-to-learn attitude (fat chance).
