Help me finish 400whp Miata track car.
Ah, didn't know that. I never use them so I was guessing. That explains some blown head gaskets customers have told me about.

Here's what you do. Do a 300whp build, spend some of the money you saved from not doing 400whp build on even better aero and getting all the weight out of the car you can. You should be able to assasinate all but the fastest world challenge vettes and porsche cup car.
This. Bone stock engine with decent oil baffling should hold up just fine.
And this... to hold up to track abuse, I'm sure it'd be north of 20k. I wonder what Dean or Mark Perry have into their cars. Have any of the LS cars you built spent a decent amount of time on the track yet?

I was ASSuming a V8 swap was not an option for you. But if it is, then yes a modified LS1 or a larger LSx would get you there. It will be about the same price by the time you build a trackproof 400 whp turbo motor. An LS1 is dead simple, makes gobs of power, and is very reliable (with good cooling and an accusump or the like) even on the track. If I HAD to have that much power then that is what I would do for sure.
+1 on the difference between building a 400HP turbo street car and a (reliable) 400HP turbo track car. Big difference.

I went about this project the wrong way. When I broke a rod in my stock engine (that set up was stock engine with IHI turbo on E85=255whp) which was great I decided why not build a forged engine for more reliability. I have a great engine builder and tuner so I called them first and they said they could build this 400 whp engine easy. Which you can but I did not take into consideration all the other factors 'stupid me". Anyway after the help I have received on here I have decided to scale back my plans and shoot for 300-325 whp and also better aero and weight reduction. I think this will help me hang with the top 10-15% of the track vettes. I guess we will see. Thanks

Buzz, this is Dan Howard. We met at Mid O one event when i parked in upper paddock with you and John Guthrie. I had the green 94 running hpde4 that day.
I didnt know you were on here!
If i may ask, who are you having do you motor work?

I'm pretty sure you and trackdayhookey are the only 400whp+ guys tracking your cars. What all have you broke hf-mx5t? I know you busted the worm gears in a torsen right?
I'm with spoolin on this topic. I think you should develop some crazy aero, think Rlogan's Nascar rear wing idea and spoolin/zxtex style apocalypse front end. Neither one of them have maxed out the front aero yet because they need a whole lot more rear aero. I would run Xida's with 15x10's on hoosier 245 r80's. 300whp and those above items should make a car that with a pro driver should be the fastest car out there minus a prototype style car.
