Angry Problems having 205/50/50 race tires mounted on 8 inch wheel

I've called just about every tire shop out here in Fresburg to have a set of 595 RS-R's mounted on my 949 wheels. All of them are giving me crap about mounting "a tire that is too narrow" on an 8 inch wheel. Anyone else run across that problem?

Never, even when I want 205/50s mounted on 9s. My local America's Tire does it without even batting an eye.

Don't ask. Just take the wheels/tires and say "mount these please".

You are asking the tire shop guy to think, make a decision and commit to something the customer knows is questionable. His answer is going to be no, every time.

You are over thinking it my friend. Easier to beg for forgiveness, yadda yadda

True that. I think I'm going to take them for a road force mount and balance at big O tire. For what it's worth, I found some continental brand takeoffs in 225/45/15 that were used for qualifying only. The owner wants 50 per tire plus shipping. Any experience with these tires?

Refer to the grand tire heirarchy thread - they aren't the kitty's *******, but for $50 per tire, assuming they aren't corded, I'd use 'em.

Bingo!

When they start asking what size the wheel is i say 15". last time I said 15x9 and 225 they said "we can't do that". Walk back in a week later SAME STORE with the same wheel/tire combo, I say "mount please". walked out with tires mounted and balanced.

Bring them Hoosier 275 scrubs and one 6" wide wheel and watch them sweat.. After that they will be more then happy to mount 205 on 8".

Who calls?

I just show up and say "How much to mount these on those?" and point to them in the back of my truck.

All the discount tire places around here informed me they will no longer mount 225s' on 9" wheels or anything that is outside of the published range by the tire manufacturer for liability reasons.

load of crap I say.

My tire shop down the street is owned by Puerto Ricans that sell more used tires than new. I get four mounted and balanced for ~$20 most of the time.

Well, mostly balanced.

And I actually haven't paid anything for a while because the owner wants to buy the computerized Robinair SPX A/C machine I have in my garage and we are trading it out in work. I don't do a lot of A/C work on my own vehicles anymore anyway.

I use a shop where over half the techs are auto crossers or track junkies. I have dropped tires and wheels off when the lobby is completely full, telling them to mount in the next week when it is convenient. And then having them call to tell me they are done; I show up and the lobby is still full, same people.

If you tip them, nice things happen. And with my take offs, even if wasted, they will push them for another day on their win vehicles.

Kind words and very high praise coming from you. It's appreciated. For what it's worth, I'm going to take everyone's advice and just drive the wheels and tires over to Big O and have them mounted. Since the car for sale, I didn't want to spend a whole bunch of money on a set of competition only track tires. I figured the federal rsr's would be just the ticket and at $69 apiece, they're quite a steal.

No issues with Discount doing this in the Atlanta area. They'll do it, then hand you a $50 off coupon your next set of tires.

Kauffman does it without any problems as well. One of the managers sometimes asks me " If they're for just rolling around the garage on?". I think that's his way of trying to escape liability.

Our discount tire is managed by an auto-x guy so we don't have issues with tire mounting.

OP:
Do you have a local club that runs track or auto-x events? Ask them who to use.

Local tire shop looked a bit funny at me when I put a 225 on a 10" wheel. After install he was surprised and said it does not look bad.

Don't give them a chance to say no by calling and asking. Just bring your stuff in and ask to get it mounted. They won't even be thinking of tire/rim widths when mounting.

He trolls me and most anyone that has anything positive to say about our little company every chance he gets. Maybe 20 times over the last few years. Lots on non sequitur posts. Not sure what its about. I've had several friends ask me, what's up with that Luke guy? I shrug. No idea. Just a special place in his lizard heart for me I guess.

edit: And I have to say, it's just a bit distasteful if you actually know Myron. One of the most polite, self effacing and courteous people you'll meet at the tracks her in Cali. That's actually how he talks. Tacky as **** Luke.
